indeed.. However Ive found it makes it a lot easier if you have a 10mm gear wrench.. its hard to sqeeze a 10mm 1/4in socket down there...

Gear wrenches are the greatest thing on this earth!

Yep... just got a set of these from Sears last week. They're still on sale for $99 versus $124. These babies rachet and FLEX. Only problem is $ear$ doesn't provide a 14mm with the set. I can just imagine how much it will run seperately. A 14 mm is only the most commonly used size on the avg Japanese car. BSTDS!

Wish I had em a long time ago.

I don't have a problem swapping the fan blade, I've done them before, ( never on a Q) but they're all about the same. Just wanted to know if the old style blade would work on the newer Q.

But now that I got my order from Everythinginfiniti.com, ( fuel pump, fuel pump o-ring, knock sensors and knock sensor harness) I'll be doing that first as it is more important for the car to be running before worrying about the cracked fan blade. Can't believe the price increase of the harness, I was quoted $26 a few months ago and when I ordered the parts the other day cheryl told me the harness was $95 !! talk about an increase!!

Which leads to a quick ?, is the knock sensor harness supposed to have 3 connections (not counting the main plug) ? I know it has a left and right for the knock sensors and the main plug what is the other plug for? I think it's yellow?

sent an E-mail to everythinginfiniti.com asking about the 91 fan blade working on the 94, they said it wouldn't, I'll have to pull it off just to see if the mounting holes are different to be sure.

Home Depot is selling a "Husky" 7-piece flex set for $69.93, and Lowe's has a "Gear Wrench" 6-piece flex set for $49.96 - Not exactly Mac/Snap-On/Allen/Proto quality, but still pretty decent for the price...

Easy Fix and good preventative maintenance. Mine had some cracks (both large and small). I tried taking photos but they didn't come out. I can't imagine what sorta damage that would have caused had it come apart at 3000rpm.

I didn't loosen the belt. I just took the four nuts holding it to the water pump. One was a little stubborn and my open ended wrench was starting to round the nut a little. After a quick trip to Sears and a new set of box end wrenches everything was hunky dory.

I checked the fan on my QX4 and it was fine. It must have more to do with age rather than mileage alone. So for $70 from Joe I'm good for another 12 years!

Check yours now if you haven't replaced it already.

My 2000 Q also has them.

IIRC, nobody on NICO has posted an account of one that actually broke - perhaps Dennis has seen some?
