Good Afternoon,

I cracked the navigation screen on my M35X 2008. Everything works, except the touch screen, but it is making me nuts looking at it. I can buy a used screen for 299.99 and was wondering if anyone had step by step instructions on how to replace it?? Or any recommendations. Thank you!

Welcome to NICO. One of the many great perks of being a member is access to the actual FSM for your vehicle.
In the DIY/FAQ section you will see a link to all the field service manuals. These give detailed diagrams and instructions for everything. I have posted the link to the section for 2008 dash board:
http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/M/2008/IP.pdf
You will NOT need to remove all the parts shown. Just the parts of the dash required to allow you access to the NAV screen.
On my 09 M, I had to remove the wood trim above the start button and along the passenger dash area. Then remove the main center switch (A/C, NAV,etc). Then pull out the plastic trim around the screen and lift the center speaker cover.

Can you give me estimated time to complete and any particular tools?

Or do you have pages with actual NAV instructions?

You already have an open thread on this topic, so there's no need to start another one. Topics merged.

Does the trim just pop off with a tool? Says there are clips and Pawls. Just want to make sure I don't need to remove other things in order before the finishers and vent.

Anyone have step by step instructions on bypassing other removals of the dash?

The dash is a jigsaw puzzle. You have to remove items to get to the item you are after. Follow the detailed instructions in the FSM page I posted and you'll be fine.

Yeah, the instructions aren't too clear. That is the problem.

Here it is simply, all you have to do is use a soft plastic pry tool to pry up the speaker grill on the dash (look in the fsm for the best point to begin, if I remember correctly you start from the front and pry towards the back), after that you'll have access to remove the vents and surrounding plastics. You shouldn't have to worry about any other part of the dash. Once you do that you'll have all the access to the screen you need. It should be simple plug and play. Here are pics I took during a previous project...you're lucky I document everything I do for reference lol...you should see all clips and screws needed. If you can't do it with this, you'll probably need to pay someone to do it because I don't think many here have gone back there. Good luck.

does the speaker grill just pry off? I bought some dash tools and don't want to scratch it up. Tried prying that speaker grill off, but just wouldn't move.

Great work, but that upper ventilator grill is really in there. There are 4 clips in front and 4 in the back. I bought some plastic pry tools, but they are too thick to get under the grill. Someone suggested electrical taping the dash and using a butter knife? Any suggestions. First photo from TDOT.

Actually, in order to get that frontal display unit out, I may have to remove finisher B, C, and multifunction switch in order to replace display unit???
