When I bought my car most of the fabric inside was water damaged (I think someone busted out all the windows because i find little glass chunks all over the place).

How do I replace the fabric inserts on the door panel (S13) ?? It looks like it is just glued on there. Also, do I need to use a special type of material??

Is there any way to change the cloth covering the glove box to match the door panels?

thanks

you and me are in the same boat bro. i bought my car from a junkyard and the fabric is not in very condition at all. I'm looking to replace it with something more pleasing to the touch... and cleaner.

bump for you!

Does anyone know of a company that makes, or could possibly make door insert replacements?

I saw an article on team-integra.net (I used to have an integra RIP) where they replaced it with cloth inserts that they cut out themselves.

Then they laid it out, inserted it into the crevices with a razor, ironed it, and did something else to make it stick. let me find it real quick so i can get some more info.

I was having a hell of a time with the s13 doors. The integra guys have it easier than we do since they don't have that curved section with the crazy curve at the back of the door panel. Any tips on how to tackle that part of the install?

local fabric store or you can find pretty much anything on an online store.

The fabric stores keep trying to sell me ultra-suede, and i can only find alcantara furniture online. For a split second i considered buying a sofa, skinning it and taking it out to the car, but it would fade quickly in the sun (interior grade; no uv protection) and the couch was like $2k. Can you shoot me a link to an online store that carries it?

i'll look. its kind of fun picking out a fabric for your interior.

i feel pretty confident when it comes to projects like this. my s13 is at my friend's shop right now. when I get it back and start cleaning it up, I'll do this and take pics so yall can see how you like it.

Yeah definately post on how things go. I just ordered my new ACC molded carpet last night so Ill probably be tearing the interior apart to sand & paint the whole floorboard and put in that carpet.

I cant wait to replace those ragged cloth door panel inserts!!

Im also looking for some decent aftermarket seats that wont break my bank

This has actually been covered a couple times before the interior forum popped up . I don't remember the exact thread, but I know some members have done it, and I have attempted it.

Here's what you can do:

get some door inserts & glovebox insert (like carbon fiber style vinyl) from ebay - costs like $30, already cut out mostly for you.

You can remove the door panel inserts by hand, yes they are glued on. The glove box is relatively easier. You can unscrew the cloth part, and rip it off.

Go to home depot, get the strongest 3m adhesive spray, like 90level something bla bla, costs like 5 bucks or so

Wait for a relatively hot day, get another person to help you (lots easier, trust me).

Follow the spraying instructions. You need to use a blow dryer to "stretch the vinyl across the weird concave curve"

Then use a screwdriver or something to press it in to the outside area.

Cut the excess vinyl, you are done.

The guy that sells it on ebay sends you some instructions too.

Something along those lines

I was never able to get the curved back to sit properly.

Lots of trial and error.

You can replace it with any fabric you want, you dont have to buy replacement ones, just buy some fabric at the store, cut it, and glue it in yourself.

'preshate it potna! I'll try not to jack it up with a price tag like that. The headliner will definitely have to wait too.

I just started my reupholstry project in my s13...

I got 3 yards of black suede from Wal Mart for $20, and it was enough but I messed up on one of the door panels so I have to go back and get some more. I also got a can of Duro spray adhesive (not from WalMart, because they wouldn't sell glue to me because I still have 3 months before I turn 18) for around $5.

The glove box was the easiest...I cut out a piece big enough to cover the cloth, cut out a hole where the lock goes through and another where the handle is. Stretched it over, glued it, and tucked the remaining fabric in under the plastic part.

On one of the door panels I peeled the cloth off and tried covering it then glueing it back on. I messed up in the wierd curve at the back of the insert and have 3 wrinkles, so Im gonna retry it.

On the passenger side I did it like they do on that Integra site, and it was much easier and I got better results.

It's really not hard, just like people said before there is a lot of trial and error. After I finish (I have to get more cloth then try again) I will post pictures.

Fixing to do a new project.Don't know if I want to tackle the top on my vert or not but everything else I will do.Front seats need to be redone but know I don't have that skill. So goign to see how much it cost which most likely I will just spend a few extra $$ and get racing seats. However I will still have the backseat in my vert. What to do....

It is a bit more tricky because of the curves, but I found that if I glue everywhere except for that part and let it cure, I can pull the fabric that covers the curve and get the wrinkles out.

Use A LOT of glue

Just started replacing the inserts. I used the old stuff as apattern to cut the fabric, just left about 1.5 inch border to make it easier to work.

The glove box is really easy to cover, but I had a hard time getting the area where the handle is to sit nicely without cutting more than I wanted to.

Still need to find some kind of dye for my faded handle and window cranks.

Also spend the extra $$ to get good spray adhesive. Duro didnt work very well, so I got 3M 77. works great.

Wow. that takes a lot of patience to get it right, especially the curve. Definately glue the center section down first and let it dry for a minute then work the curves and stretch the fabric while the glue is still tacky.

The actual door vinyl was separating at the top section so it made the groove a little too shallow to let the edge of the insert sit right.

It looks good, not sure how long the fabric I got from Walmart will last...I think when it starts getting screwed up I will replace it with some suede. But looks good for $15 total.

i just got leather 300zx seats and honestly, i kinda dig how the vinyl looks underneath the inserts. it matches.

i'll probably replace it with something soft, tho, since there are a few holes. post pics experimental homies!

I just got back from a 2 week vacation, and my car was parked in the shop the whole time. It got pretty hot in there, and I guess the glue sucks and it all wrinkled and isn't very sticky anymore. Im gonna call around tomorrow to find an upholstry shop that can do it right, screw it lol.

the fabric you got from wall mat is not the highest quality to change your interior, it will do for now, and the best spray glue to use is 3m 80 vinyl & leather adhesive , you can get it at any home depot. post some pics so we can see your work. you can also check my profile to see some cars i've done, all leather or italian vinyl.
