I'm about to replace my front disc brake pads. I'm just waiting for the parts to arrive. I had a mechanic look at my car and he said the rotors were fine. but it was a very quick look...( i see them, they look ok). They look ok to me also, but I'm no mechanic, there are no major rough spots, or deep grooves, funny colors, and they feel ok when i run my finger along the surface...but if i am about to change the pads, should I be replacing the rotors?and if i don't replace them because they have some life left in them, is it ok to wait until they should be replaced, then get new rotors even though i have been using the new pads with the old rotors for a while?

(i know I can get them turned, but if I were to do that, I would probably just order a new set anyway...someone told me brembo's would be better than what infiniti puts on the truck.)

any opinions?

you can reuse the rotors. But the true way to check rotors is with a micrometer to make sure they are not at minimum thickness. As long as they are not glazed ,grooved ,or have hot spots you should have no problems reusing them. If any glazing exists you may experiance a little brake squeek.

It will work if the nominal thickness and the diameter of the rotors is the same for the brembo setup. You will need to mesure it out and compare before you try it.

kool.thanks also 1 more thingi found out that my ebc suv brake pads are on back order...would you recommend akebono or hawk's as a replacement, or would it be worth looking around for a place that has the ebc's in stock(this is based on someone telling me that ebc's were great, expecially for my car)

I am not into the aftermarket realm.I couldnt tell ya which are good and which are garbage. I work at a dealer so I only deal with OEM parts.

NISTECH, I don't want to single you out...but you seem to know everything.I got 1 more question for you, at least for now...I have called about 4 different Nissan Service Centers and a couple Infinitii Service centers and have gotten different answers on what Lubing the Propeller shaft means. Some say it's a waste of time, and nothing needs to be done, some said it IS done when you bring the car in for an oil change, some said it's NOT. a couple said it's just spraying the area of the driveshaft that meets the differentials with lithium grease. 1 person said you have to take the grease fittings apart (which i didn't think was the case)

so I am just trying to figure out what it means exactly in the Owner's manual when it says to Lube the propeller shaft every 3,000 miles?! I don't want to neglect anything that should be done regularly. Is there anywhere under the body the needs lube maintenance?

LOL...Ok first of all I dont know everything and never will, In my profession I am always learning something new every day.

Any how to the point you have one zirc fitting for lubing. it is about dead center of the front drive shaft. That is suppose to be lubed at every oil change. There are no fittings at the u joints on a factory set up. Now if someone has installed aftermarket Ujoints then they MAY have zirc fittings for grease. If you still have the factory Ujoints the only place that needs lubing is the one in the middle of the front drive shaft.

--------------
If you have any grease nipples on your drive shaft and it is usually the front drive shaft that has a single grease fitting and that grease fitting is made to receive a grease gun, then only that drive shaft gets grease. Spraying any lubricant over a drive shaft only gets the shaft dirty and sticky to pick up dirt. A grease nipple is put in place where grease can be inserted between 2 rubbing surfaces and the grease lubricates that place.
