Is it possible to do?

Im pretty sure I have run a bearing or 2 in the bottom end - I am about to remove the head this weekend and I am wondering if it possible to replace the big ends ( im guessing these have gone ) by simply removing the head and sump ?

I cant see any reason why this cannot be done but I might be missing something totally obvious.

it is making the exact same noise as this video ( from another member ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEEzuHs6DgoI have removed the rocker cover and all seems in order and moving correctly when I turn the engine by hand. all the noise seems to be comming from the head but its hard to tell for sure and I cannot see any damage

If it is the main bearings then I guess it is a totally different kettle of fish as this will have to be disconnecting the gearbox and crank shaft ( I dont have the tools to get the 5spd down to the ground safely )

Simply just removing the engine to make it more accessible will probably take you less time than trying to replace while in the car.

Do it OUTSIDE of the car. Trust me you will definitely not regret it.
