O.K. so my project is starting within the next couple of months (that's when it's getting brought here from Ohio by my family...) It's an S13.. One of the things I'm wanting to do is replace the backseat with stereo equipment (subs, mids, amp and highs of course.) I'm wondering if anyone has ever seen this done? I've seen plenty of 2 seaters with the section behind the seats turned into a full arsenal of stereo equipment.. But never done to a car that originally had a backseat... Does anyone have any ideas on how to make this work? I'm thinking make a decently large box to mount everything that the bottom is fitted to the floor board? I'm pretty set on this idea, so if you're someone that's just going to knock it because you particularly don't like it, please just avoid replying... (Your insults won't change my mind) Thanks in advance to anyone who has some decent ideas...

What my one friend did was completely strip the rear seats and everything under them, then fiber glassed on top of where the seats were. He pulled up the fiber glassed mold and then made a box with that as the base. Its pretty heavy but once you slide it into the sweet spot it fits better than a lego. It definitely isn't going anywhere but just incase of an accident he did attach straps to the back and anchored them in the trunk.

thats excactly what i want to do. except also put some like 6.5 inch speakers attached to the box. that be a sweet setup. then maybe in the flat area of the trunk make a flat fiberglass piece with slots to hold your amps and then lay glass over the entire flat piece.

cool idea, it would be interesting if you could find some inexpensive shallow mount subs or something to use - maybe that way you could avoid have a HUGE box behind the seat. I think pioneer has something like that, but I'm just waking up and still groggy...

btw, welcome to ohio, which part are you going to be storing your 240 ?

you misunderstood the ohio part... i'm originally from portsmouth, ohio born and raised but i'm in the marine corps and now stationed in cherry point, nc... the car is still in ohio at the moment...

btw if anyone could get a pic of this stuff done it'd be appreciated... it's exactly what i'm wanting to do

the idea of doing this is because i find a trunk more useful than a backseat.. don't wanna use up the trunk space

you also missed the point that I said LOWS, MIDS, AND HIGHS... meaning everything is right there.... (I could care less about the sound surrounding me... my music is always too loud for it to matter anyway)

I had the local stereo shop build a lightwight box that is flush with trunk floor level, put two 15" and a Amp in the middle, and a trunk cover board, all covered in the same material and matching the car's interior color, looks very very clean and sharp, and sounds kick a**, I'll Email you couple of pics

I have contemplated this for years.I always decide in the end to leave the stuff in the trunk, mainly for the fact that even though things can be put back like they were before the job was done, with useful thinking and some mockup, the trunk will have plenty of room once everything is laid out right. One or two 10's is more than enough to sound good in a 240.

ive always wanted to do something similar. post up pics to this thread when you do it. i think the cleanest stereo mod is installing 6x9s next to the rear seats, or putting them into the privacy cover (which i will be doing) and possible mounting an amp between them. i think clean is better, so whatever you decide, def dont make it busy looking.

I'm the type to keep cars until they are beyond repair, so if I do something, it's very unlikely that I'll ever want to change it back... especially in my s13 considering it's a rebuilt salvage with odometer discrepancy all marked on the title...

i like how it looks clean and like it's almost suppose to be there, but I am going for a somewhat more flashy interior... not to the point that it's hard on the eyes or looks cluttered most likely some fiberglass work with some glossy paint... either way... very nice work

lights are ok if you do them right... some will hate on you for it and call it ricey.. but honestly they're almost back to the point of being original again.. the whole fad of everyone slapping them on their hondas kind of died... just dont make it to where when they're on and you look in your mirror it looks like a f***ing light show in your mirror or as if you're getting pulled over...

I'm not in to "show" I like the way it is. I didn't even want this, but I towed a car for the stereo shop and this is how they repaid me. Nice, but if they did fiberglass and light and s*** I would of asked them to change it....

i LOVE it. im going to copy this setup, but i think im going with the 6x9's in the quarters. it doesnt take away from the space in the trunk and utilizes the nonsense that the back seat takes up. perfect.

oh and since were on topic, where would one find a nice carpet to wrap the box with online? the local fabric stores here doesnt carry anything like that so i usually wrap my projects in the best looking material i can find but with a clean look i want to do something similiar to the carpet in the car. any links?

looked like the roll was plenty big enough to me to cover a box or even where the backseat use to be... you could also, most likely, go to some interior shop or even a nissan dealer...

Look for automotive textile stores. They will also have vinyl dye, adhesives, leather, vinyl, etc. Anything you would need for an interior.

Menards sells carpet that works well for sub boxes. They will cut it off a big roll however long you want it.I have built quite a few boxes with it.

I did this in the back seat of a customers Civic. No my style, but it's what he wanted. I still added my own touch so that it at least flowed with the original lines of the interior. I also did this with no fiberglass.... all wood baby.

Sorry for the crappy pics.... it was back in the day,

wow you dont some of the best work i have ever seen broadfield.

no wonder why your car is sick you must make bank off people wanting custom systems like that that's some good money to do that.
