I did search but if I missed something please point me in the right direction.

Well I've been looking for a 240 for a while now and I found a fairly cheap 1990 SOHC one on craigslist for 900.The only problem with it (as far as I know) is that it has a bent intake valve on cylinder #4.

My question is how hard would this be to fix/replace and how much do you think it would cost?

Thanks in advance.

Since the valve itself is damaged, you'd have to remove the head off the motor to pull the valve out and replace it. If you have to ask how hard it is to replace the valve, you should probably have a shop change the valve out for you. They will make sure the seat isn't damaged/replace it if it is and make sure you have a solid valve to seat seal.

$900 is a lot to pay for that old of a car that needs to have that much work done to it. Also, valves don't tend to bend willy nilly. Something caused it to happen, typically striking the piston during a mis-timed event (ie chain break). I would avoid the car if you're not mechanically inclined, or if you are talk him down as the car could turn into a money pit pretty quickly.

Also, moving to 240 tech

Depending on what all is damaged your looking at least 3 to 500 in machine work and new valves. Most machine shops wont cut just one new valve, they want to do all at 15 to 25 bucks a seat. Then how many valves are actualy good and can be re used? If you dont plan on doing an sr swap it may be cheaper to do a kade swap than rebuild your head.

i jackers rite man..sompin serious happend to bend the valve out..you will find tones of kids trying strange things with there cams and not timing the cams correctly..this tends to bend valvs at they hit pistons on the upstroke...its a buyer beware thing..but..if you can get the chasis for next to nothing..scrap the sohc and swap a cheep rebuilt ka24de in it..good luck

Thanks for the help everyone.I guess I'll just see if I can find a cheap DOHC nearby and try to buy the chassis off the guy for cheap if it's in decent shape.
