You might have seen my other post, but I just wanted to start this one . . asking . . since you just can't get enough power out of 4x6's . . . what do you reccomend doing? Is there another size that you can replace instead of 4x6? I'm going to get a headunit and some speakers real soon, so I'm really curious as to what to do, should I get some 4x6's and just do a clean install or should I get some bigger and more powerful speakers and do some custom work and have a phat sounding system? Once I add my amp in a month or two . . will it make a huge difference since I used the bigger speakers? What do you guys reccomend . . I'm willing to spend a decent amount . . but I want to get one thing at a time, maybe spend about 10k on it total in the next year or so, but for now . . between $500 and $2000

so far this is what I'm thinking . .HEAD UNIT: ALPINE CDA-9807 250.00 OR ALPINE CDA-9811 300.00 (both play wma, cd, cdr, cdrw, and mp3's, and are ai-net cd changer compatible)CD CHANGER: ALPINE CHA-S634 250.00 (maybe, not a priority right now anyway)speakersLANZAR 110rms 220max (around $20 on ebay)audiobahn 80rms (around $50 on ebay)mb quart 125rms ( ?????)

I don't think Lanzar's are any good, I hear audiobahn is really good, but mb quart just plain rocks so if anyone would just care enough to tell me the model number or a link to where I can get 4x6's that are 125rms mb wuarts . . that would be great. If not . . please tell me which speakers to replace .. .

Thanks in advance

Also thinking of adding a nice amp in a month or two . . something real powerful, maybe one or more, up to four I guess . . . in the long run... I recently saw the Alpine amp which is rated at 1800 watts . . but dont see it anywhere online, which model is that and how much? it's silver and black.

Well you are not hindered by money are you. I see you have a S14 240sx. I think doing some woodwork and getting some 6.5s in there would be a really good idea. You would just have to watch the mounting depth and the amount of room you have between the speaker and panal. If you get really good speakers you can always cut a hole in the panal to show them and then you will have one less thing to worry about. Also you can put speakers in your back seat side panals. You will have to harden them with some fiberglass and stuff. I would ask your local car audio guys about doing that. You can do it but they can explain it better in person. You can also do the same thing with your panals in your rear. Just remember that you are not hindered by putting in their stock location. Also adding some subs is not a bad idea. As far as head unit is concerned. Since you want the best and your not worried about money I would get the Pioneer Premier DEH-P940MP or the Pioneer Premier DEX-P9. If those are too much I would go with the DEH-P740MP that is the one that I am going to get. I really like it and its a reasonable price and it will allow to build a system off of it. A cd changer is a cd changer to me it really does matter. As far as what speakers to get if you want to hear some bass out of them then I would get something with a really high rms. I you want treble I would componet kappas or mb quart. mb would be better in my mind. also get the silk tweeters. titanium sound to harsh for me.

is the pioneer dex-p9 mp3 compatible? if so, that's okay, cause one things for sure . .I have to have mp3 compatibility. ok, question still remains . .I mean . .I got my credit card ready to order, but I can't find the mb quarts with 125watts rms that everyone's been baffling about . . please either tell me the model # or the link to a site where they sell them. They are 4x6's right? or are they a component set?

thnx

Woah, the DEX-P9 is steep! The cheapest I've seen it online is $750.00. That's about two weeks or work, lol. Hmmmm, it definately looks good though, and I don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that all those listed features are definately good for something. It also has an optical digital input and output, that's just insane. Well . . . I think it's great, but definately not what should be going into my 240sx as of now . . lol... I'll save it for my s14.5. I'm not sure if it was you sruf, but someone made me an insanely nice list of a performance sound system back a few months ago . . I still have it . . and still plan on going through with it . .although with a fewminor changes to my taste . .but that's for my s14.5. For my 240sx . .for right now at least . .I want to have a nice mp3/cd/cdr/cdrw compatible head unit, which is also xm radio ready, and cd changer ready . . and puts out at least 80rms and 200max...

prefer pioneer, clarion, and alpine . .maybe sony

A couple of things. What head unit puts out 80 rms. The only thing I can think of is the alpine units that require amps because they don't have the mosfet 50 amp built. Yes the DEX-P9 is rather steep. I would go for the DEH-P740MP. Thats the one i am getting. If you still want more you can go for the 940. But to me the 740 is the best hu are far as price and what I want.I am about to go to work and I'll do some extra research while im there.

The DEH-P740MP is discontinued, and the cheapest I saw it for was 210, but there's a newer mdoel .. the DEH-P7400MP which is 215 bucks. It seems like a great head unit . .how much are u getting it for? I'm thinking of getting it also....

It is not discontinued. I emailed pioneer and asked them because I heard the same thing. But they said it was not discontinued. There is a new one coming out soon. I think it will be out in like 3 weeks. I get it wholesale at work so im paying 230 for a new one. I don't know if the ones your talking about are new or used.

Fist off pay attention to how many zeros there are in the number. If you don't you will get confused. The 7400 is crap. That is the pioneer version. Not the premier version. The 740 is the premier version. The 7400 only has 2 preouts and they are 2.2 volts. The 740 has 3 preouts and are standard 4 volts. That is the the 740 is better than the 7400. Also there are a couple of little things that are accecessories. And the 7400 tries to trick people because the rear preout can be switched between fading and non-fading (between being a regular pre-out to being a subwoofer preout). Even with this you still only have 2 sets of preouts. Thats why im going with the premier DEH-P740MP. I really like that cd player. Also look at the ones that don't have the Organic EL Display. I like it but if you don't care for it there are some other cd players that match up to the 740. Don't get the 7400 if you are planning on building a system with amps and subs. It is a death trap.

I had a shop do a custom install to forget about the 4x6s in the hatch of my 91. They sound so much better as 6 1/2s. I'm not sure where the factory speakers are in a s14, but some custom work really wasn't that expensive- @$200 plus the price of speakers for me- very reasonable. And if you're looking at alpine, I've got a 6 disc changer Ai-net not sure about #) with minor cosmetic scuffs that I need to unload as my head unit was stolen (discontinued unit impossible to replace and the insurance was going to give me $450 for a pioneer "compatible"- until I started complaining). If you're interested I'll sell it to you cheap ($300 for a new one- $75 plus shipping?).
