I just bought a sr swapped 95 240sx from a member on here and am trying to get it ready for inspection. One of the problems is that the speedometer isn't working. I tested the vss and found that it isn't putting out any volts so i need to replace it.When I remove the vss do I need to drain the trans fluid first? Also is the vss from a ka trans and the sr trans the same?

Thanks Jeremy

If your quick you can swap them and only leak a little fluid like I did! If you jack up the rear of the car up you might not leak any. I should of tryed that.

If the car is level on stands, you won't leak any fluid.

Get one for the same year as your car. Most people tend to get KA sensors, even though there really isn't a difference between the two (they both measure the same speed, the gauge just gives you a MPH or KPH readout). I guess it's being safer than sorry.

Will a vss from any KA powered car work? If I find a KA hard body at a yard could i use the VSS from that car?

I wasn't sure if the truck and 240 transmissions were the same. I thought the final drive ratio in the trans might be different for the two which would make it not show an accurate speed

I did say to get one for your year of car. Hardbodies are a totally different beast.

If we assume that your harness is wired correctly then you HAVE to switch to a KA speed sensor if it does not already have one (possibly bad if you do), it's one of the steps you must do when swapping to an SR. The SR sensor will not run your stock cluster.

im not entirely sure what speed sensor is in there because i bought the car already swapped. Im going to buy a ka speed sensor so everything should be good after that.
