I replaced factory Michelins with Kumho. couldn't be happier. They are perfect for Dallas. You should be able to get 4 mounted and balanced for around $600. About half of the price of Goodyear and michelin or Bridgestone. Handling, quiet and great treadware so far 12000 miles

Most importantly: get the correct speed rating (H or higher - even if you do not drive 130 mph, these tires have better internal construction) and the correct load rating index (95 or higher - the load capacity is needed for our heavier cars).

I have Goodyear F1 GS-D3's. They are really good in terms of performance. They are really great in the rain too and I had some first hand experience driving from San Jose to Orange County through the 101 freeway in a torrential downpour... almost the entire way! The tires held up really well. I didn't feel any excessive hydroplaning and felt confident to stay at relatively higher speeds. They have good treadwear too! although there is no standard on treadwear so it varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, they seem to get good reviews and certianly a good review from me. I heard they last around 35k mi's depending on how you drive. Now that its getting dry around town, I can really feel the performance on these tires!

I got them from Tirerack.com and just had them shipped to my local mechanic and he gave me a good deal on mounting and balancing. I don't really trust anyone but infiniti to do the alignment so i scheduled an appointment with them. Also, I had a problem with the TPMS and had them reset that as well! They say its 50/50 on the TPMS working or not after mounting new tires - sometimes they reset after 15 mins or so, of driving.

Goodluck!

thanks N.B., that's one of my top runners after research. it is good to hear someone with the same car is satisfied with the GY F1. there were no reviews with the m45 on the tire. i actually ordered a new set of potenza's from discount tire today. the F1 are not available in texas right now, so i am going to take advantage of discount tires 30 day policy and ride the potenza's until the F1's are available. thanks for descriptive response, you made up my mind.

by the way, what is the road noise like? thanks

As you can see from my past posts, I highly recommend the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 tire as well ... have been using it for a while on both our cars and like them a lot!

On my 2003 M45, I get about 19-21k miles out of a set - about 60 to 70 percent highway driving - and they are simply outstanding in wet weather braking and handling.

Yes, slightly noisier than a "Touring Tire" but that is minor compared to the ease of mind you get in wet weather. Under most conditions, the noise is not bad at all!

This tire, and the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2, are probably the two best tires for an M, in my opinion. In a 245/45-18 size, the Goodyear has a 100W rating, which is also very nice.

The only issue is the price: the Michelin is pretty steep and the Goodyear is a bit less. Both are more expensive than some other brands. IMHO, you do get what you pay for, but the price-performance is not necessarily totally justified ... if anyone has a financial burden, then there are other less expensive tires to choose from.

Now, if in the same breath, anybody talks about high tire prices and then spends any money on replacing the OEM wheels on an M ... I would whap them on the side of the head if it were my son or daughter!

Try searching for the yokohama S-drive. I am purchasung a set for my 02 Maxima. I was researching for quiet tires for the Wifee for 3mos. this is the only tires that have good write-ups.

2 things...

1) These tires are pretty quiet - Well, so far so good. They were better than my OEM's. The OEM's were very noisy, at least when they got old.

2) DO NOT Use the F1's in the snow LOL
