Replacement tires and TPMS?

I am a new Versa owner.

I love the car but hate the tires. I believe the car would handle much better with a wider tire. Has anyone replaced the stock tires and been able to keep the TPMS light from coming on?

Any recommendations for tires? I put a lot of miles on the car so I don't need racing tires or anything too expensive. I would also like to keep the speedometer reading close to normal.

Thanks

TPMS should not come on if the car is off and the tires are replaced and filled to the normal air pressure.

the TPMS sensor is in the wheel not the tires, go ahead change the tires.

If you want Wider tires wouldnt you have to put on new Rims?

If that is True, how does the TPMS work with new rims?

Do the rims have to be special?

Does anyone know?

Sensors are actually in the valve stems. When I had the dealer throw on the SER 17" wheels, they said no problem, just swapped valve stems too, and no problems.

Yes and no. The TPMS system includes a sensor and a sender, which are inside the valve stem and also a piece inside the tire, attached to the wheel (but removable). As OV10stang said, you can move your TPMS sensors to new wheels if you need them.

I was informed that the TPMS wrapped around the wheel under the tire, but I thought that it was in the valve stem... I think I have been misdirected...

(just read EV's response)

So... would the piece that wraps around the wheel fit a bigger wheel, or do I definitely need new sensors if I get 17" wheels?

Hey, newb here considering the Versa. One question? How much are a set of these TPMS? I'm thinking of winter tires on steelies, but without TPMS the light would be on constantly right? Or can I just pull the fuse for that particular system and disable it?

The TPMS system cannot be disabled. You can transfer your existing TPMS sensors to steelies, and then have a new set installed on new tires. when you change the wheels out for the season, you will need to have your sensors re-registered so the correct set of sensors transmits to the BCM. I have no idea how to do this yet, as spring hasn't come yet.

Kimber:

That is a TPMS sensor.
