While they're not bald yet (only 9k mi.), I wanted to know what would fit on my rims (19" alloys), other than stock. I'd like to have a little more contact patch area for the rear...

The stock tire size is:

Front-225/40-19Rear-245/40-19

-Will going to a larger size void the rim/tire protection package?-Any negative effects to the tire pressure monitoring system?-What's the widest tire I can safely put on the rear?

Thanks!

I was looking at tirerack.com...they say the rims will fit:

Front-245/35-19Rear-275/35-19

The Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 seem like the best choice...

You'll probably want to read the terms of the rim/tire protection package as I ould think it would outline the specifics there.

The TPMS is not sensetive to tire size. Only pressure.

It's not always a good aiea to simply put the widest tire on a wheel that will fit. First off it may look funny. secondly, it changes the shape of the contact patch. Enough that even tire wear can be a problem. The 245's mounted on the rear 18" wheels seem to have a problem with center treadwear. This has been a common problem that I suspect comes from mounting a relatively wide tire on a wheel. I speculate it bows out the center of the tread slightly putting most of the pressure and wear there. I went through 2 sets of tires on my G and both times the rear centers wore first. The front tires and the outer treads on the rear had plenty of life left in them.

As far as the tire sizes, I think tirerack's optional tire size info is off for the rear. The OE 19" wheel is 8.5" wide. I you look at every 275 tire that they list for it, each has a minimum rim width of 9".

You also need to make sure when you choose tire sizes, to keep the diameter ratio between front and rear tires very close. The VDC will not be happy if it's too far off as it will think the tires are slipping all the time.

Update: I went with 245/35-19 front and 275/35-19 rear.

Excellent tire wear, more traction, better ride quality, and it looks 10x better. Highly recommend these sizes with the 19" rims!
