Hello all. I am just curious if anyone has any recommendations for my problem.
The car: 1995 240sx SE, bone stock with a auto transmission.
The problem: Car wouldn't start, did all necessary troubleshooting and found it to be a bad starter.
The fix: Went to Autozone and picked up a re-manufacturer Duralast starter for replacement. Took the bad starter out of car, which involved dropping exhaust and transmission to tilt engine back to take out the ONE bolt, also had to remove the transmission dip stick tube for clearances. Total Pain in the a$$ by the way!!

Compared old starter to the new starter and noticed that the gear that turns the flywheel on the old starter is exposed about 1/2 inch, the gear on the new starter is exposed about 1/4 inch. I thought that this was kinda weird but thought that it was fine since there was no way to adjust it. Anyways, I installed the new starter and started engine. upon start up there was a very loud grinding noise, SH*T! So i took it out and lined it up again and re-installed. Put everything back together, pissed off, but I needed it to start ASAP. So now every time i start it up it grinds, makes same noise when you try to start a car that is already running.
What did i eff up?? Any help is appreciated. Thanks
