if they are stock the amp is probably burnt out. the speakers are bose and are self amplified. Also if you have an aftermarket head unit the output is four ohms and the speakers are two ohms. if you dont have the converter/harness that could be an issue as well. but i think youd notice problems with the head unit. If you placed aftermarket speakers in the car with an OEM head unit then you have the two ohm unit with a four ohm speaker and they will play quiet if at all. Also im not sure how the speakers work being self-amped but im going to guess that there isnt as much power running across the lines. Check that your wires are good, and if you can test the speakers in another car or bypass the amp built onto the speakers inside your own car. I have a 90 Q and the back 6x9s had blown amps. i just put some new ones in, left the bose in the front and got a new unit for the front.

i had the same problem with my 90' Q45. 3 of my mini-amps were fried to the point they charred. pulled the door boxes out and re-wired them for a full set of Infinity Reference. the factory headunit hardly has enough power to push them. to run any kinda of after market you have to replace the headunit with another. dumb Bose.....

well, if you ask the headunit which is a PRE-amp to direct drive even 2 ohm speakers, you will be dissatisfied.on the otherhand, there is nothing wrong with the bose headunit, and with properly tuned 'mini-amps', they can sound quite crisp and plenty loud.

i'm running kappa 692.7i in the rear with freshly re-cap'd stock bose speaker amps.and the stock hu.night and day. daedalus and q45man1 have heard it and were duly impressed.
