The radio and speakers are the last working parts of my sound system. The cassette does not work and the internal connection for the trunk-mounted CD changer is no longer functioning. It could all be a switching solenoid in the radio, but regardless of what I do, I will have to remove the radio to have it checked out.

In the event that the repairs are too costly, I am interested in some advice for a replacement unit. I would like one with an in-dash CD and, if someone makes it, an integral adapter for an iPod.

Any recos?

Anyone have any info about how to remove the radio???

ThanksKen K

I suggest Nakamichi if you can find one (ebay), because they sound absolutely outstanding and look very clean and neat without any idiotic looking dancing lights. Otherwise Pioneer, Clarion, and Alpine are high quality. My dad just spent $400 on an Alpine for his MB, and they sound as good as ever and look tasteful compared to years past.

You'll end up either wiring it into the Bose amps or bypassing them altogether, with new wires going to aftermarket speakers.

If your Bose amps are still in good shape, consider a CD head unit from a later Nissan, like a Pathfinder or something. A $18 adapter allows you to use 95+ Nissan/Infiniti head units.

Thanks. Are the units you recommend a standard size so there is no modification needed?

I will have to do some research to see what is meant by a CD head unit... I am pretty out of it when it comes to this kind of equipment.

The Bose speakers are in good shape. I had one worked on a couple of years ago and all are, knock on wood, doing well.

ThanksKen K

(Thanks for the reference to the site for removal of the unit, BTW)

If you're hearing more than motor, tires, wind and the occasional siren, you have your radio up too loud anyway. I like this radio not only for its USB port (thumbdrives, USB hard drive) and SD card slot (they haven't even made 2 gigs of music I like) and removable face, and AUX socket, and remote, but it's eighty bucks.
