Anybody install rack in a 91? I am wondering if I should attempt it myself or pay to have it done. I do have air compressor and don`t mind getting grease on me. I found the Rack for 265.00 not bad when considering it also replaces the inner tie rods.

I'm doing it right now. Theoretically it's easy, but my tie rod studs are being little ******es, same with the steering column. Overall though, definatly a job you can handle. Look into possibly getting a HICAS steering rack, it has a quicker ratio.

edit: I bought an 18" 1/2" drive breaker bar for this project **insert Time Allen grunt here** ohhh what you can do with 18 inches of leverage

edit2: Craftsmen, of course.

Thanks for the reply. So All I have to do is unhook tierod ends undue the power steering hoses and disconnect from the steering column. How do you disconnect from the steering column?

There are also two places where it is attached to the crossmember with two bolts each. NISTECH said for the steering column all you have to do is take off the furthest bolt down, then slide it out. Rust will make this a little more trickey.

Ok I found the FSM and it looks pretty easy so next weekend I will try and change it out myself and hopefully gets some pics so other people can do it as well. I had a frontend mechanic look at the car and he recommended the replacement of the rack do to much wheel play and a small leak. The problem I had when driving was the steering wheel would shake at 50 mph and higher also sloppy response. I will replace the outer tie rodswith Autozone`s The Teins you have to replace the inner and outer to work and the replacement rack will all ready come with new inner tie rods.

Well, any questions, you know where to post 'em!

I bought some underbody rubber spray to help rust proof my rack before I put it on. BUT, I sprayed it right over the other paint and it took the factory paint right off and left me with bare metal. Rust proofing is a good idea, but not the way I did it.
