There is an optional rear spoiler available for the G37 Convertible that removes the unsightly (to some) rubber trunk mounted antenna in a very interesting way.

What it does-

The OE optional spoiler adds an internal AM/FM antenna loop, and has a replacement miniature antenna sharkfin type antenna to retain satellite capabilities.

I have one on order at the point of posting this and will update this post with before/after and details about this, as well as a skeptical enthusiasts opinion of radio reception changes.

Is there supposed to be a picture attached above?

The local dealer received one the other day and the first thing they had to do was remove the long antenna to put a short one on because the long one looked out of place on the car.

Here's the link, don't think they allow the direct linking:

I really want to like Picasa it is so easy to use, sometimes however the pictures are only viewable by me. So now I think I have changed the default settings to the point where my dropbox should be public.

It's showing and that looks much better than the antenna.

My dealer had not received their small antenna's yet. They left me with the long one. It looks stupid so I removed it completely. I dont listen to AM or FM radio anyway. They kind of messed up on that one.

There is actually a reason they added this antenna, although unattractive it is functional. I'm with you though I usually stick to SAT or iPod the digital signal processing with the AudioPilot2 feature brings the music out in an amazing way.

The G37Coupe uses a wire element inside the rear glass. Have the glass in the trunk part of the time this will cancel any terrestrial radio signals.

Originally the G37 vert was supposed to come with a shorter whip antenna, but final testing showed that signal strength was not acceptable.

The spoiler is pretty pricey but IMHO it looks pretty decent and the added benefit of removing the RC car looking antenna is worth it.

Have you tried using the BlueTooth with the top down yet? I am really curious to see how that works.

So I was looking into the competitions offerings and found the below image of the IS-c. Note the larger posterior and side mounted rubber whip antenna, at least the one on the G is centered. and not an afterthought.

Infiniti FTW yet again.

That red on the IS C looks pretty good. I went to the Lexus website and they have a comparison tool where you can compare their vert with other cars. The G vert is conveniently not listed. The IS C (350) with all options is 1400 cheaper than a G-vert with all options when you config them on the website, but, the G (journey with premium, nav, sport, tech packages) included 19" rims, wind deflector, upgraded antenna spoiler and every other option that is configurable. The IS had the basic convenience upgrades but upgrading to 19's, wind deflector and everything else was listed as an option for the IS but did not show a price. End result, I'm sure, means a comparable IS C would cost upwards of 60k and end up being 5k more than a fully optioned G-vert.

As a side note, I find it interesting that Lexus offers lowering springs, shocks, sway bars, brake upgrades, performance air intake, exhaust upgrades, etc. as F-sport factory accessories. Would be cool if Infiniti offered similar NISMO parts on their website. They do show R Spec High Friction Brake pads for the G-vert in the owners accessories section of the site (at $310).

I personally think the Lexus looks like a Matchbox car and it quite narrow and as all Lexi is boring.

I also looked at the BM 3 series and MB clk and the Acura ?... Ummm used S2000. Not even the XLR have features like the G37s Open Air HVAC and AudioPilot2 technology with 13 speakers inside a convertible that provide an extraordinary experience automatically when the top is opened. None of the use something like the adaptive climate "feel" that Infiniti is using with ambient temperature adjustment in correlation to road speed to maximize overall comfort.

Having the F options available on the website opens an entire company supported market to tap into directly from the internet. There stuff is quite expensive without labor consideration which is at least on par with Infinitis dealer per hour rates. I don't know why Infiniti never went with embracing the sport tuned aspect of their cars, it seems like they mostly left that to Nissan. Watch the 370Z Convertible will have Nismo options.

It is not too bad. I have a 09' Acura TL SH-AWD and traded my 07' Acura MDX in on the G37 C. I like Acuras Nav alot better. I hate that you cannot use the Infinity Nav while moving. I understand why...but dont like that the Voice Recognition does not operate with the top down.

The system in the G is all around better though. In my Acura you say "call home" it says "radio off" you know what I mean. You have to hit the talk button each time you respond to the system as well. The Infinity system you do not. I like that. Just some new things to get use to is all.

Get used to your car brand as well (infiniti). Not the word meaning something without limits, be it time, or space or a number of other things without end(infinity).

It's no coincidence that the have the red IS convertible in front of a red wall. They are doing everything they can to hide the god-awful hump-a** that they had to build into the trunk in order to fit the top.

PS: I don't mind the "mini-whip" antenna. I really do not like the chrome spoiler. I'll wait for the aftermarket to come out with something; or I'll just black out the spoiler.

The IS 250 is boring and numb feeling in a sedan I would guess it would be even lamer with the increased weight. The 350 still isn't performance inspired. However they do edge Infiniti in quiteness and some say refinement. I personally like my cars to be alive.

I don't think the add on spoiler is chrome. Check out the picture thread

Before I bought my G37 Convertible, I took out the Lexus. The ride was uninspiring, handling was mediocre, and the interior Toyota Camry boring. The car needs the racing option upgrades but nothing can help it's bland looks. Though to be fair, the ugly trunk is somewhat usable compared to the G when the top is down :-)

Unfortunately the OE optional spoiler with integrated internal AM/FM antenna lwon't be available till earlt 2010 due to quality issue with the spoiler manufacturer.

Very nice!

If I have to live without the final solution this is certainly an nice interim step.

Specifically what did you use to replace the whip antenna? & how is reception?

The spoiler is discontinued at this point...

I had the unfortunate pleasure of having a 17 year old back up his pick up truck into the back of my convertible at the gym parking lot before new years. I came out literally 3 minutes after it happened! Was so pissed!

The rear bumper, trunk lid, and spoiler were damaged.

The spoiler had a big chunk missing from the collision, and the auto body shop recommended replacing the spoiler. Through their interaction with the parts manager at my local Infiniti, they were told the spoiler was discontinued and replacing my spoiler was not possible.

Thankfully, they were able to REPAIR the spoiler (the main piece missing from the spoiler had fallen into the housing of the spoiler, so they said they were able to use it in help repairing the spoiler)

The car was in the shop for 2 weeks, but they did an awesome job and the spoiler looks great... can't even tell that anything happened. So, I'm lucky that I was able to salvage my spoiler, since it is quite unknown if they plan on making the rear deck spoiler with integrated antenna ever again...

Hopefully, in your case (as well as all the others who wish to rid themselves of that awful rubber antenna) they will start manufacturing them once again!

Kudos to cmesurf for finding a way to shorten the rubber antenna and keep the radio signal. However, IMO the rear deck spoiler looks awesome and dramatically changes the way the car looks from the back. Also, the XM bump is a bit smaller and cleaner looking than the XM antenna at the base of the rubber antenna...
