i was wondering if anyone could answer a question for me. I want to replace my factory bose system in my 97 j30. I know that you need a special adapter if you only replace the headunit, but i want to replace the speakers and all. Do i still need a special adapter or just the wire harness. I was thinking that i could just run new speaker wires if needed, but i hear so much how hard it is to replace this bose stuff. Im going to relace it with a eclipse 7001 headunit and mb quartz speakers. Any help would be appreciated

im not the best at this but to my knowledge if you replace the HU and speakers all you will need is the harness i believe, maybe not even that if you buy an external amp, which is a very smart idea with MBQ speakers...i have read that they only sound good with a lot of power running to them. wait for someone else to chime in here...they know a lot more then i do, but if you have any other questions just let me know. im about to (this weekend) install my new infinity kappa component set and 6x9s and amp.

Yes, you should be able to just use the wiring harness if you're replacing everything. If you're running an external amp, you can just go w/o the harness if you tap into the harness' 12V, turn on, and ground.

Get the harness and don't cut up your factory wiring. You could get a Metra Turbo Wire model # 70-7550 at AutoZone or Circuit City. You will use...12v constant (yellow wire), ground (black wire), ignition (red wire), power antenna wire (blue wire with white stripe), andillumination wire (orange wire)

Once you have connected your adaptor harness to your Eclipse harness, you will only have to connect the remote turn on lead to your Eclipse harness and send that wire to the amp along with your RCA cables if you are going to do external amplification. I think 99% of the people here would recommend the external amp. But just in case you didn't go that way... you would just run speaker cables from your Eclipse unit to your speakers. Don't forget that you need an antenna adaptor. If you were to get the Metra one the model # is 40-NI20.

yeah I agree on the external amp. MB Quarts like Audiobhan like power. You don't have to connect the illumination wire. If you don't connect it the hu to the wire the hu will stay at its max brightness.
