I have only 1 key to my 92 Q45 and have been checking on replacement keys. Dealer wants $200. They said it requires a laser cutter and so don't try other options. I looked at an aftermarket key provider - http://www.streetkeys.com and they sell a blank for $3.99 and offer a referral to someone who can cut the key. Anyone have any experience with this website or other suggestions?

Call the local locksmiths in your area... someone is bound to be able to cut the key... wafer locks have been pretty common in higher end cars for a while.

If that doesn't work, several members have had great success with this guy:McLock Locksmith(864) 934-3411 or (864) 231-9671E-mail: [email protected]

I have been told that he can do magical things, like cut keys from a faxed copy of your existing key - but I don't know if that's true or not...

On my old 1995 Q45, I had success with a local "mall key" place. They had a blank and were able to cut those inside ridges perfectly - made a copy that worked beautifully. Was not the "Titanium" look blank, but it worked.

Most key copy places can now do those unusual Infiniti keys ...

Is it platinum or titanium? It's been over 4 years since I had a G20, the G20 actually looks almost the same as the Q.

I had a '95 Q that came with only one master key & one valet key.

A local locksmith had a blank master (not pretty like the original key, but the correct blank, nonetheless).

I paid $30.00 for the key.

Unless it has a chip in it or you must have the "pretty" key, $200.00 is a bit much.

I used that key all the time, never a problem for five years (car recently replaced with a 2000Q).

Titanium.

A Platinum key would be one heck of a lot more expensive.

Luckily, there is no chip in the first-gen Q45 ... it is just a mechanical key.
