If you have enough room to store one, get a larger hydraulic type one, not only much faster (easier on your back) but a solid safety issue as in changing tire on side of freeway with cars flashing past you so fast they shake the car on jack. Generally the OEM type jacks suck, suck, suck.............................
Look at the lift range close, the most common mistake made back when I used to sell parts, they buy a jack and back in one year as a return when they realize it doesn't lift the vehicle enough. Seriously consider that you WILL lose two inches of jack lift if used in loose soil...................you HAVE pulled far enough off the freeway to be over dirt right??? How the human genepool gets trimmed back, people who only pull onto the paved shoulder because they don't want to 'get dirty'. The ones that always get killed here in Texas.
Not putting on the parking brake first? I'd be looking HARD at that, how you lose a hand when the jack slips from car weight shift. Never. NEVER.
