So my wife has a 1998 I30. It's in good shape, and has never had major issues. She bought it new when she got her first real job and is quite attached to it.

My problem with it is the yellowed, dim headlights. So here's my question:

1. Can I use 1998 Maxima headlights as a replacement (they are cheaper)? The part numbers seem to be different, but I was wondering if they had the same assemblies anyway.
2. Are there aftermarket LED lights that would be brighter/nicer?

I did a search of these forums and couldn't get the exact answer to #1 (I think the answer is "yes" based on some analogous questions). I couldn't get a whiff of an answer to #2.

Thanks in advance,

Ed.

I would recommend just polishing the current headlight lenses -- which is an even cheaper fix.

This kit works well enough: https://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-G3000-H ... B004HCOE72

I would recommend removing the headlight assembly from the car, since they are super simple to get in and out. And the one thing the kit doesn't tell you is be sure to pick up some kind of sealer (clear coat, etc.) for the plastic lenses. Otherwise they will yellow again rather quickly.

Sealer? That's a great tip! But what kind of sealer are you talking about? What did you use?

Rattle-can automotive clear coat (available at Home Depot, or similar big-box stores). Takes a bit of finesse and wet sanding to get a nice smooth finish. Like I said, I'd highly recommend removing the assembly to eliminate masking/overspray issues.
