I have an '05 G35x with the factory Bose stereo/6-disc changer/NAV system. I don't follow car audio like I did when I was a teen so I'm looking for some recommendations on a new head unit. My preference is for a unit with a touch screen and either a built in storage drive or full iPod functionality. I'm not a big fan of the factory NAV but I'm leaning towards a unit w/o NAV functionality to keep the price reasonable as I am on a budget. Based on what I've gathered from other posts, It seems I would have to buy a kit to fit the new head unit, replace the A/C controller, and purchase a wiring harness? Can anyone confirm and let me know what I should expect to pay for all these parts.
As for the head unit itself, I have no brand preference. Just something that looks nice and has decent sound as I'm planning on rolling with the stock speakers as least for now. A single disc unit would be sufficient as long as it has built in storage or can be wired for use with my iPod (5th gen video). Retaining use of the audio controls mounted on the steering wheel would be a plus, as would full mp3 tag support and cover art on the display.
TIA - K
