Other than the 225/60R17, what other tire sizes will fit the OEM 17" wheels?

You can find the answer to your question in the Rogue FAQ:

Specifically, the wheel and tire fitment chart by EddNog:

Even though i does not realy bother me, I never realized how small the wheels start looking to me the more we talk about wheel options. There is considerable visual space around the wheel wells with my 17 inch wheels. But wheels are never really a priority until they are worn and don't pass inspection. With that in mind, I will certainly use the vast Nissan Rogue forum wheel knowledge in the forseen future.

Well, we cannot change the wheel diameter... it will screw up the odometer, ABS and VDC systems.

But you can lower your Rogue like Eddnog did:

Philip:

Are you a nissan tech/engineer? I notice you posting a lot of technical and functional info that leads me to believe you might have more knowledge than the typical owner.

The reason I ask is that when I bought my Rogue (2009 S AWD), I met with the manager of the service dept and told him I was going to change the wheels from the 16" steel to 16" alloys and then slam dunk the Continentals for some slightly larger General Grabbers (225/70-16). He said no problem, no negative impact on any of the systems with the exception of some slightly higher speedometer readings. But, there was no mention of a negative impact on VDC, AWD, ABS, or any of the other systems.

In you post above you state that changing the tire diameter will screw up the ABS and VDC systems. Can you elaborate? I got the service manager to actually write down some tire sizes and brands he thought would be better than the Conti's (he agreed they are crap) and the weird thing is he said I could even go to 235/70-16, which would give me a full wheel well but not rubbing, slightly better clearance and resilience against road hazards like potholes, rough roads, and such.

Appreciate your response and opinion.

Mike

No, I'm not an engineer... just an avid Nissan owner for 20+ years. I have accumulated a lot of knowledge in that time wrenching on my own cars... whether I was driving them everyday or on the racetrack with my 240SX. When members post questions here, I try to take the time to research them using the resources here on NICO, Factory Service Manuals, etc. My wife says I'm obsessed!

Anyways, back to the topic at hand....

The ABS, VDC, traction control, and AWD systems use the wheel speed sensors located at each wheel. There is some leeway for tire inflation, sizes, etc... but go to far and you might cause issues. There are many systems in the Rogue that use vehicle speed to trigger certain sequences... ie ABS self test, AWD Lock inhibit at high speed, Traction Control, etc. These systems depend on accurate speeds for control.

Now, something up to a 2-3% difference probably wouldn't cause an issue. However, if you were to go 15-20% oversize... I suspect there may be some problems.

BTW, the odometer and speedometer in the Rogue get their readings electronically from the wheel speed sensors. That's right, there is NO speedometer cable! There is also no way to correct for speedometer/odometer error from running oversize tires.

225/70R16 are 1.94% bigger than stock. This is insignificant, so I agree that it should not cause any issues.

235/70R16 are 3.8% bigger than stock. IMHO this might be pushing it a bit... still 3% isn't a huge change.

Thank you for your insight, clarification, and the peace of mind. I read a lot of your posts and they always include vital info, particularly for new Nissan-ers like me. I was a little skeptical about the AWD/VDC/CVT system initially. But back when I bought mine, dealers were begging people to buy cars and they had a 7-day return/refund policy (although the mileage charge and administrative fees were pretty high if someone really did decide to return a car). Anyway, after the first day I was sold, even with the weird noises and such. As for speedo correction, I just add like 5mph to whatever the speedo says. I got pulled over on the way back from one of our road trips and got a warning, but my cruise control was locked on 65 and the cop said he got me at 72. He was in the right for sure, dark night, no moonlight, two-lane road, no margin for error. Anyway, I think most late model cars have electronic speedo's.

I have a good 30K miles left on the Grabbers and by that time I'll probably be in line for a new Rogue model anyway. I like a bigger tire generally because I had a bad experience with some super light BBS's on my Saab Aero. I dented two of them in pretty shallow potholes - well, you couldn't even call them potholes, more like wide cracks. I got one straightened but had to buy a replacement for the other - at $985 per paw, I decided I'd forgo low profile wheels in the future. And that's been the main cause for my quest to get more meat between the car and the road.
