I pulled my front seats and carpeting from my '92 convertible. Seats are off to the upholstery shop, and I'm looking at stockinteriors.com for my replacement carpet. Unless someone has a better hook for the carpets?

I got mine from, I think, autoupholsterykits.com

I'm sure they're all pretty similar...

Aside from the obvious pain of having to strip the interior, how hard was actually installing it? any real tough parts? this is another project I'm interested in.

hardest part is getting it under the dash without taking it out.

Is it just a matter of feeding it up there behind everything, or does it attach to stuff?

the factory carpet is actually one piece and you would have to pull the dash to install it. but its like slit up the middle so if you pull hard when you pull it out, it tears at the slit and you can remove it without removing the dash. you can stuff it back in without removing the dash but its hard, at least it was for me. I'm not sure if replacement carpet would be one piece and you could cut it or what.

thats a pic of what you are looking at... those metal brackets under the dash bar are a pain to get the carpet around but its not that hard.

If I could do it again I'd do it like we did my friends, just pull the carpet and spray the whole interior in bedliner. Its so easy to clean now....

When I look for replacement carpet, I notice that they all say "for 89-93 240sx".

But isn't coupe/hatchback carpet different from convertibles?

I tried to fit carpet out of an s13 coupe in my car last night, and it bunched up in the wrong places, didn't fit under the backseat properly, and my front seats won't slide forward or back because the carpet is raised in the wrong places.

Here is what I'm talking about. The new (used) BLACK carpet:

I guess someone cut them?

Here's the rest of my photo story:Me taking the center console out:

Well, after my boyfriend helped me with the cover over the heater controls and cd player:See how filthy the old carpet was?! Look at that stain behind his foot!

Our dog helped as best he could:

The carpet looks pretty damn good! It bunches up at the exact same spot in my fastback, could be from the sheer age of the carpet or could be a factory defect! By the way, your boyfriend looks like a "Bad Dude" i wouldn't want to mess with him. Wings tues night!later

O my GOD! I got so scared......stalker!

You do realize this is the "convertible" section, right?!

Last time I checked, your 240 had a roof!

Oh, and if you think the carpet looks good, wait'll you see the BLACK seats we're "borrowing forever" in the car with my BLACK rear seats.

It's beautiful.

Mine bunches at the same place, just like it did in my coupe. it always does it. to help it from doing that you can pull out the plastic sidepanels and cut a hole and ziptie it to try to keep it to the sides as much as possible, but that **** is going to happen anyway.

Thanks, I'll try the zip tie thing.

You can't really see it when the seats are back, but it's just that I know it's there, tarnishing the perfection that is my all-black interior.

well if it really bothers you, you could cut a pie shaped piece out with a razor knife and then use an iron on patch behind it. Any carpet supply store should have the heavy duty patch you'll need and you can rent the irons they use any place that rents knee kickers and stuff.

Seats are done, carpet and heat shield/insulation are in, new rear seat side panels are in, waiting for my new remote trunk/fuel door releast to come in (cable snapped), I may attempt to wrestle with this bear this weekend. I did get carpet from stockinteriors.com, we'll see how it goes. the seats were redone/reupholstered, not an exact match on factory fabric (naturally), but pretty close. Factory seats have small threads of blue, turqouise, and purple throughout, I couldn't tell because my seats were so dirty and worn. Attached is a picture of the car in action (or inaction). I also have a thread in the ONLINE MECHANIC addressing my timing chain project. Many thanks to 180 FAN and USC JUSTICE for guidance and parts! Hope to have the wheels on the ground by mid-May.
