Time to replace my battery. Other than the recos in Consumer Reports, what are people's experiences with different brands? Also, the battery that I presently have is only 9" long in the 12" tray, so I must have replaced it with a smaller size at some point. What is the stock group size? 75? 24?

Thanks.Ken K

Nothing but excellent experiences with Everstart, and the price is very low.

Check the FSM or battery manual at any good store.

I use a Optima Red Top and Qship96 uses the Sears version.

Too small a battery will kill the alternator by over stressing it.

I use the Sears Platinum P1 {size-group 34}, which is a rebadged Odyssey pc-1500.

Consumer Reports current edition {November 08 issue} has a complete test of car batteries, pick the best one within your budget.Size 34,27,or 34/78 all work well in the Q.

Most of California is a great place for battery life since extremes in temperature are rare, whereas in the South we rarely get more than 36 months of life regardless of brand. The normal life range is 3 to 5 years depending on location and preventative maintanence AND LUCK.

Maxnix,

I did check the FSM. I could not find a spec for the battery size there or in the operator's manual.

ThanksKen K

It's a Group 27. I bought a Duralast Gold at AutoZone last time. From the research I did, everything is built by Johnson Controls that is sold in this area... so I went for the best price I could find. Of course, they may make different quality levels of batteries for different vendors... who knows...

Thanks. We have an AutoZone here. In addition, they are well-reviewed in Consumer Reports.

The Group 27 Duralast Gold fits perfectly.

That yellow top brightens things up under the hood too.

Maxnix,

On EL-18 in the FSM for the '92 there is the following reference:

Service Data and Specifications:

Type 95D31RCapacity V-AH 12-80

I don't see any other info and have no idea how to use these specs...
