Hello

I brought my son's car in to have the A/C retrofitted and found out that the a/c compressor has a leak. Of course they found this out after I already the 150.00 worth of work converting it. :-|

The gave me options, one of which was to try leak sealant, but at the end of this process, they told me that the a/c clutch was bad. (Shouldnt this have been found out before step 1 above?)

I was quoted 350.00 to replace it with a used one that the shop found in a wrecked 240 (90 day warranty), and 850.00 to install a new (um...no!).

They also said if I found one cheaper myself they would install it but would only be able to warranty the labor.

I'm wondering if I need to be looking specifically for an 89 ac compressor w/clutch? Or will other years (and/or Nissan models) fit?

Thanks!

While the Stanza and early 240sx's shared the same engine, one was a FWD car (the Stanza) and the other was a RWD car (the 240sx.) Push comes to shove, you can download an 89 240sx FSM and crossreference the part number. I don't have one, but I know I've seen them floating around these forums. Good luck!

If you want an AC compressor for the 89 240sx, I've got one. I'll do 20+ shipping. Email me at [email protected] if you're interested. Yes, it was working before I removed my engine.

Gia, hopefully Monday it'll go out, if not Tuesday latest. Will ship priority so you should see it 2 or 3 days max at your door step.

Monday's a holiday so Tuesday it is.

I really, really appreciate you stepping in to help out. Says a lot about the quality of people who hang out here.

If anyone wants to recommend someone in Phoenix who would like to earn some side cash installing this, send them my way. Otherwise I'll go back to the shop that gave me the bad news.

Whoa snap! Monday is a holiday. Ok, Tuesday for sure. You'll have it by the end of the week most likely though.
