Replaced water pump and cant get the fan and pulley to stay on spindle

i had to replace a bad water pump and now i put the fan and pulley back on but it wont stay on!!!! please help!! i even went out and got another rubber O ring to put over the water pump spindle and it still does not want to stay on. does anyone have any experience with this? any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Hey, i really want to help, but i hve no idea what you are talking about, what doesn't stay on? the water pump? the fan? or the pulley? can you be more clear? If you don't know what that is, take a pic of it and post it here, it would help a lot.

The fan is held on with bolts.

Yep. Actually the fan and the pulley should be held on with the same nuts that thread on the studs coming off the pump hub itself. At least thats how it is on my 97.

Along with a new water pump should have come four new studs that first need to be screwed into the fan hub plate on the water pump using the double-nut tightening technique.

Careful not to over-tighten/twist-off any of them.

If you don't have the new ones, you should be able to remove those from the old water pump, again using the double-nut technique, but doing so might not be that easy. Loctite may have been used on them, so penetrating oil and/or heating might help.

This all sounds too basic though, so how about a photo(s) of your problem parts?
