I have a 91 240sx, I replaced the throw out bearing there was play in it before I put everything back on, when I started my car I hear nothing but a click. I noticed I could barely put my slave master cylinder back on, and can only pump the clutch so much. I'm guessing I put the throw-out bearing on wrong. What do you guys think? If it is the throw out bearing, I had put it in correctly to my knowledge, used the retaining clip, slid it on and the fork had some play it in, don't know what I might hae done wrong, any suggestions?>

what do you mean you could barely put the slave back on? did it not line up with the clutch fork? if the clutch fork is crooked that could be suspect to that your throwout bearing is on wrong..but we need to know why you say you coulkd barely put the slave on before we can make any accurate depictions.

It lined up perfectly, it just seemed like there was no room for when you pump the clutch for the pedal to go up. The clutch master cylinder looks like it really can't expand all that much.

I thought I put it on correctly I guess the retaining spring I didn't know what to do with as shown below. I left it on but not connected to anything. I have looked at everything I can, but nothing is real descriptive.

If the clutch throwout bearing/lever is put in wrong and you can't push the clutch in the kill switch on the clutch pedal won't allow the car to start> Unfortunately it sounds like you need to pull the transmission again and reinstall it. Did you replace the clutch/pressure plate and rear main seal also? It would be a good time to do that. I have an new extra clutch and pressure plate if you want to wait for shipping. Make an offer.

The retainer spring fits around the fulcrum post to hold it in place, and clips back into the withdrawal lever.

If you e-mail me I have a electronic copy of the technical manual. [email protected]

It just occured to me that you may be able to pull off the dust cover from the throwout bearing lever and reach in to fix the retaining clip. Sure would beat the heck out of pulling the transmission again.

Any magic tricks on getting the transmission back in? I worked a couple of hours shoving on mine yesterday to no avail...

Just like taking it out, start putting the trans back in with it being upside down. Then turn it as you push it towards the motor. At least thats how I did it on my 89. I would think they're the same procedure.

Jack the front of the motor up just a lil. This give the motor a lil more angle to get the transmission out easierBut be sure not to jack it up to high and break the mounts. Then once all the bolts are loose, just turn the trans where the starter hump is at a 4 o'clock position(passenger side) and pull it out.Same for re-installation.

Also on the no start problem, check your starter connection and make sure its tight. Then if it still don't start, check the switch under the clucth pedal, press it down while your car is in neutral and see if it will start. The car will start even if the throwout bearing is installed wrong, because it has nothing to do with the motor.

Put mine back on in like 5min with a buddy, had the transmission upside down and used 2 jacks to slowly raise it up until the shaft went in. then I kept a jack supporting it while I tightened the bell housing, and then put the transmission mount back in after it had self adjusted.

Well it took 15 minutes or so, with three jacks. One tilting the engine, two on the transmission. Started with the starter bump at 4 o'clock, then rotated as I pushed it in.

Thanks for the advice!

Found my old post just wanted to post my solution..... it was a bad battery!! Simple as that. Guess my battery died, while I was working on it.
