Post

Ok so a few weeks ago I replaced the rear struts on my 1996 i30 because I was hearing excessive noise from the rear of the car. Once the struts were replaced the noise completely went away.

Yesterday I started to hear a different noise coming from the rear and have determined the noise is coming from the struts. The noise becomes present when I go over bumps. It's a rattle noise.

Is there anything I can adjust to fix this noise like the top bolt of the strut (in the trunk)? If I tightened the top bolt of the strut too tight, would it cause this noise?

Thanks

Could be the upper bushings. Did you get the rear aligned after the struts were replaced? If not, it may need it.

Of course, it's also possible that the noise isn't related to the suspension at all...hard to tell without hearing it in person.

Align the rear? LOL

Only thing back there that can be adjusted(factory set up) is the centering of the rear beam. The camber and toe are not adjustable in the back.

Ooops. I'm used to my cars with real suspension in the rear.

I've been doing some research and heard from multiple sources that the bearing plates (which i did not replace when i replaced the struts) could be causing the noise.

Has anyone experienced this problem?thanks
