Just replaced my starter on my 92 240 with KA.

But it still won't start. It's doing the same thing as before.

When I turn the key all systems start up but there's nothing from the engine bay.

Gonna go through and clean the connections from the battery ect. But I don't think thats it..

Ne body got an idea I could sure use it.

Thanks

Ok I tested the small hot going to the starter (black yellow stripe)No juice when I turn the key.

Traced the black yellow wire back to the interlock relay. But I'm kinda stumped after that...

Is this my problem?

How can I test to make sure??

Thanks

B/Y from starter to interlock relay OKB/W from interlock relay thru ingnition switch back to fuse block OK

So the interlock relay must be the problem.

When I jumper the B/W and the B/Y together (bypassing the interlock relay)Engine starter clicks very fast and smoke rises off my negative battery terminal...

WTF??

Somebody Help me out here please. This thing is driving me crazy.

I dont know why your negative is smoking. The starter is only designed to be on for a few seconds or it will burn out. You may have connected new starter wrong.

You dont have power at the starter. I assume you disconnected the connector close to starter and tested for 12v+ by connecting probe to ground and other to incoming connector. The most likely problem is the clutch interlock switch. When you depress clutch you close the switch and send ground to the interlock relay which energizes the relay coil and closes the relay and allows 12v+ to go to starter. Its common for the clutch switch to break.

Yeah, the clutch pedal uses a rubber bumper to depress the switch. The rubber is old and cracks out (Had this problem too). I would check that before getting a new switch.

I hope this is your problem since it is really easy to get fixed.

UPDATE: from BAD to WORSE

Well I really feel like a dummy.

Checked the clutch interlock today.

Rubber peice missing

So I repaired it and thought all my problems would be solved

Hook everything up and turn her over, but only get a small click each time

So thinking low battery I hooked up to jumper cables.

The next time I tried it, I turned the key two times, both times hearing a loud click

Then everything shuts down...

Everything. Like I didn't even have a battery or cables hooked up to the car.

I cant even roll my windows back up>?<

I've checked all the fuses next to the battery, they appear to be OKI checked all the fuses under the coloum and they appear to be OKI checked the engine ground and the ground coming off the battery they ohm out good

I dont know where the rest of the grounds are located.but i cant imagine that a loose ground would cause my hole system to just completely shut down!!!!!

HELP ME PLEASE!What did I do and how do I fix it???

UPDATE: FIXED

turns out the new starter isnt exactly the same as the old one. the two screws sticking out of the solenoid are not lined up the same. the one coming off the solenoid was just touching the engine block, up were you couldnt see it.

On my way now to go tear the guys at the parts house a new one.

Thanks for the Help

Good job. The local parts place gave me the wrong starter too.

Glad you fixed it. Would you mind posting the brand of starter that didn't work, for future reference.
