This is a poll which I hope will give me some idea of how reliable SR20DET transmissions are. Mine is just about shot, and I've only been driving around with my swapped engine for about a month. How long did your SR20DET Trans last before you had to replace it?

mine SR camed with an F-edup transmission. so i got to replace mine strait away.

All you need is a KA tailshaft..

The tailshaft is the same as the drive-shaft, right? The part that comes from the back of the transmission and connects to the differential?

Tailshaft isnt the driveshaft.

S13 trannys have two halves, Bellhousing & tail shaft. bellhousing bolts to motor and is specific to each motor KAE, KADE, SR, CA.. the tailshafts are all the same (well older CA trannys and some 200sx trannys have different gear ratios) but they are all the same..

So putting together the info from the other thread and this one... when my SR transmission goes out, I can buy a KA24DE transmission, use the KA24DE transmission and tailshaft, plus the SR bellhousing?

exactly right. As long as you dont break yoru sr bellhousing, a replacment transmission is only a junkyard away. =)

Thats good to hear, when I blew my KA I made a hole big enough to fit both hands into in the block and touch the #3 and #4 rods, bent the oilpan down, and ripped a chunk off my KA Bellhousing. Glad to know that I should still keep the busted transmission around as a replacement.
