:wtf2:
Fob was working perfectly before i replaced the battery, now it can't lock, sometimes it can unlock, the trunk and alarm buttons work. The car wont start unless i place the fob over the start button. I've replaced the battery before with no issues. I know Ilya had this issue from another thread. Was wondering what the resolution was.

Hey man, the resolution was that the dealer replaced both fobs even though I tried 4 different brand new batteries. I thought I updated that thread with that info...do you know which thread it was?

Yeah, it was this one that I bumped up from the dead
replacing-battery-in-key-fob-t594533.html

You did it under warranty? Mine is a 2011. It would be total BS if they charged me for a new FOB and programming! >:(

The dealer offers to replace my battery when I go in for service. I always have them do it. That way if they screw it up it's their fault.

Updated that thread...

The dealer replaced both my fobs under warranty as I was still under the extended Elite protection.

I guess I'll have to give my dealer a call and see what they say. That's soooo not cool to have to work perfectly one second, then flake out the next. It's almost enough to make me want to move to another brand...as fickle as that sounds.

Brought the car into the dealer, and apparently it was a "bad battery," which is strange because I bought the pack new (2 pack) and I tried both batteries. I did put in CR2032, instead of CR2025 (I think) which is the thinner of the two, but I used a CR2032 the last time I changed the battery and it worked fine. They're charging me $31 for it...which if you think about it, is a $31 coin battery, but whatever...it apparently works now.

On the plus side, I got to drive a QX60. Nice car overall, but FWD, and the 3.5 V6 feels a little anemic for a vehicle that size. They should have tried to stuff the 3.7 in it, at the very least. It had the "around-the-car" camera system, which is a little trippy at first, but is a really nice feature that I wish my car had. Otherwise, I definitely prefer my M over it, for sure.

FYI, the refresh to the Q70 brought the around-view system. While I wouldn't upgrade to a Q70 right now with a new model likely not far off, maybe the next gen Q70 would be a possibility for you to think about....

I'm probably not going to upgrade anytime soon. With car payments only about a year off to finish, I'd like to NOT have a car payment for once. It's been about 7 years, along 3 different cars, and I'm ready to pocket that money instead lol.

So they only charged parts, not labor for troubleshooting? Not too bad.

I've had 2 somewhat relatable experiences with a dealer.
First time they said 2 lug nuts were missing on a single wheel  It seemed very suspect to me but I paid 19 bucks for the parts. They graciously told me that they did not charge me labor for it. Gee thanks, it's not like you were not rotating the tires already! haha
2nd time was when I took a key fob to be programmed, they said one battery was dead so they replaced it with a $16 battery. Clincher is that the battery of an 03 m45 isn't necessary for the key fob to start the car. Again, oh well, because they usually don't guarantee keys you didn't buy from them at $500 will work. I am thinking I need to make an annual maintenance plan to buy these batteries in bulk online and change out the fob batteries every summer (at the dealership in case it refuses to work :gapteeth: )

I don't know how well their parts department is tied to the service department on the books, but I managed to sneak a view inside the office of their service manager. I couldn't certainly decipher what all the numbers were, but I saw a "last month" and "this month's target" column - I definitely understand budgets and targets as any business needs to track their health. However I know that if I am dealing with anyone with the upper hand and who has a quota to hit/ numbers to meet, then that person isn't necessarily looking out for my welfare. Just my 2 cents.

^ they definitely charged labor and the cost of the battery.

Just to add, the dealership put in a 2025 battery as opposed to the 2032 battery. Next time, i'm going to do that instead of going to the dealership again. I swear, I put 2032 batteries in last time and they worked fine...
