I replaced my clutch a couple days ago at a shop. Previous to having the work done, nothing (other than the clutch) was wrong and now I am having the following problems:

-Clutch engages low in the pedal-SUPER light/soft clutch pedal (softer than my accelerator)-When I am in neutral or the clutch is engaged and I let the RPMs fall, the engine dips below idle (around 250 RPM) and goes back up to idle. It has died a couple times.

I also notice a transmission smell. Not burnt clutch but just that smell like when you go into a jiffy lube or a transmission shop. If you have any clue if these are related to the clutch being replaced, let me know. I just want to make sure that the shop takes care of issues they should have. Thanks guys!

maybe they did not bleed the clutch that good. or you could have a bad slave cylinder or clutch master cylinder or the clutch line could be bad and leaking. take a look under the hood and look and see if you have anything leaking. just follow the line from your clutch master cylinder to the slave cylinder and see what you find. if you find anything go back to the shop and tell them to fix it.

The soft clutch pedal goes away in time. It didn't make any sense to me that the pressure plate would be softer, then get harder, but I've had both my wife's celica and my G35 clutches replaced recently (totally different brands) and both started out limper than a noodle and have stiffened over time (usually in that first week or so).

The engagement point can be adjusted. Take it back to the shop and ask them to do that. My engagement point used to be at the top of the pedal travel, then with the new clutch it was almost at the floor. After a week or so, its just slightly lower than it was originally.

Don't know what to tell you about the idle issue. Ask the shop if they touched your throttle.

Yeah I am having it adjusted tomorrow. I have no idea what the idle issue could be. Maybe they know. I am hoping it is something that is "common" and can be fixed really easily. It was definitely not happening before.

I think it is time to get a G37.... :-( I love the Max, but it is just getting to be that time.

Hahaha. Having come from an I30, I'd suggest the G37 sedan. I love my coupe and the styling, but now that the wife and I are expecting a baby, the sedan would really come in handy. Also, the newer sedan styling is a HUGE improvement over the 1st gen boxes.
