I have an 07 M35 and just replaced the battery in it. After replacing the battery, I tried to start it but when I push the button, nothing happens. I followed the typical procedure for replacing the battery, removed negative first, cleaned the terminals, connected positive first on the new battery, etc. The battery has some amount of charge because the interior lights work and the brake lights work. I have tried both of my keys. I have tried them both in the slot as well. The dash does not show that it even sees the key. I checked all the fuses and they are all okay. Does anyone have any ideas? Please help!!

Is your old battery completely dead? Did you try to put it back in to see what will happen? Did you try to jump it to see if it turns over at all?

I had an odd issue on my truck similar to this and it turned out to be the actual terminal, not connection, on the battery was loose. So check that.

If all else fails bring it to AutoZone or something to check the battery charge regardless if it is new or not.

That was something that I was going to try today. The car would turn over with the old battery. I was either going to try charging the new one or putting the old one back in.

Try "jumping" your car with another vehicle. If that works, then it's your battery.

I tried a fully charged battery and it still doesn't work. I noticed that the key fob won't lock/unlock the doors either. Is there any way to register the keys without going to a dealer?

This all happened yesterday. I felt that when I started my car, it would hesitate a little before starting, which it never used to do. I drove it several times during the day and then in the evening after sitting for several hours, I tried to start it. When I pushed the button, I could hear a clicking and the engine didn't try to turn over. I tried that a couple of times, so I decided to go get a battery. I changed the battery and now here I am.

...regarding the new battery you purchased, is it within the required specs for our cars?? It could just be a 'faulty' battery...just like mentioned before, try taking the 'new battery' to a shop in order to get tested.

...you mentioned the key fobs also...try changing the key fob batteries also...

this might also be related to the camshaft and/or crankshaft position sensors -- I've heard M owners having issues of their cars not starting due to the sensors going bad...

Tried a new battery in the key fob and still nothing. I'm calling the dealership in the morning.

So I had it towed to the dealership and they replaced the power distribution unit and the intelligent key controller. It took them 3 days to get it running again. I am going to pick it up in the morning and will hopefully find out more details. On the bright side, I have been driving a brand new G37 sedan for the last 3 days!
