Replaced active rear sway bar bushings

Just got through with replacing all 10 bushings, 2 on the bar and 4 at each end. Major improvement in handling and reduction of crashing noise over bumps.

Bummer though as i was tightening the last bolt on one of the brackets that holds the large busing which fits around the bar, I stripped the thread. It was not a case of over torquing but the fact that I probably did not have the bolt in square. It is tight to a point but not as it should be.

Any suggestions, should I get it re-tapped or is there a slightly different bolt I can use to rescue it?

In my experience, the threads on the bolt should be softer than the captive nut or threaded hole it screws into.

Try to "chase" it with a tap. Unless you pulled a King Kong on the bolt, I bet it can be repaired.

Just remove a known good bolt, match it to a die (or a thread pitch ID tool thingy the correct name escapes me ) then select the corresponding tap & carefully work it back & forth.

Good luck. That sucks. I broke off a stud that retains the carrier bearing on the driveshaft to the floor pan when replacing my driveshaft. That was fun.

I agree.

I did that when I replaced my Tstat... Put the bolt in crooked... A good tap/die set is key for anyone.. If you just messed up a few threads in the hole, it can easily be fixed... just be sure to make sure that you correctly put the tap into the hole straight, or you could really be in for a mess.....
