Hello all
It appears that a bulb or led is out on one of my rear lights. I assume that I can't just replace that bulb like we could in the 90s and 2000s, and I need to replace the entire light assembly, correct?

And it probably costs $300 or more.

They're bulbs. The inboard one on the hatch is a clear T10.

Thanks a lot Vstar.
I'm trying to get to the service manual on this forum, as I've done many times, but clicking on Rogue does nothing. Clicking on any model does nothing - - - - - - nvm.

Did you mean T20? Nissanpartsdeal shows T20 for REAR TAIL LAMP

My 2015 Owners manual shows the rear tail light is a '168' (T10) bulb.
The Stop/Brake light is a 'W21'(T20) bulb.

The inboard and outboard bulbs are different. @Lone Wolff has it right, the inboard is a T10 and the outboard is a T20.

Thank you all.
Yes, a 168 T10.
I haven't located how to remove the burnt bulb, but I'm sure it's in there.

You have to pull off the inside hatch panel. Not difficult. IIRC four pushclips and the doorpull recess. The panel is held to the hatch by about a dozen plastic pawl-pins which pry loose. The only tool needed is a plastic prybar for popping out the doorpull. If it's a power door you'll need to disconnect the "Close" button after popping the panel, which is very awkward without an assistant, so have one handy.

@VStar650CL
I removed the panel, but I'm not sure how to continue. I removed the inside panel, with the 14 push pins, of the backdoor, but I dont see bulb screw sockets.
I would attach a picture, but it's too big.

if you crop your picture to just the area you need you could post the picture, it worked for me the other day trying to post a pic

Shoot. I didn't think of that, and I already put the cover panel back. But thanks for the thought.

There are a couple of nuts on the inside that hold the assembly in. For some reason the '15 FSM doesn't show the inboard lamp R&R, but here are the instructions from the HTML version in ASIST:
* Remove back door finisher.
* Remove rear combination lamp (back door side) nuts.
* Pull rear combination lamp (back door side) rearward to release from clip and locators.
* Disconnect the harness connector from the rear combination lamp (back door side) and remove.

Is there a way I can see that HTML version? I'm a visual guy and would like to see it.

I pulled up the exterior lighting, EXL, service manual, and it makes it seem that I can get to that lamp from the outside and not the inside. See below:

Removal and Installation INFOID:0000000011280795
REMOVAL
1. Remove side air spoiler. Refer to EXT-49, "Removal and Installation".
2. Remove rear combination lamp bolts.
3. Pull rear combination lamp rearward to release from clip and locators.
4. Disconnect the harness connector from the rear combination lamp and remove.

That's for the outboard lamp, for some reason the PDF manuals are missing any reference to the inboard ones. The HTML manual isn't much better, there are no diagrams. Only the text I pasted here.

This could not be any easier. Sometimes, we overthink things.
1. Remove plastic protective inside cover using a flathead screwdriver to pop it out from the clips.
2. Look for 3 small bolts in the inside panel. Two are together, and one is inside another hole. Remove those bolts.
3. Using a flathead screwdriver, pop out the lamp assembly from the outside of the car. It is secured by 1 snap clip and those 3 bolts that you removed in 2.
4. Unscrew the bulb gasket/wire from the panel.
5. Replace bulb.

Thanks again

I got the bulb out, now I look for its replacement, but I see conflicting information on nissan parts pages.
To clarify, the burnt bulb is the one circled in yellow, and I think that it's called "rear tail light" vs stop or backup.
Lone wolf mentioned it's a t10 168, but webpages, with my vin entered, tell me that it's a different bulb.

Help,please.

That definitely looks like a T10 wedge-base peanut. The FSM says 5W, so that would make it a 168, 194, or W5W.

A happy 2024 to us all

My wife's 2016 Rogue has a burnt left rear brake light. Is that bulb a W21'(T20), as @Lone Wolff stated above?

Thank you again

I think I know the answer to this one.
I have a spare bulb from when I bought the bulb for my original post with the burnt bulb above. I assume that I CANNOT use the same bulb because it will be less bright when braking, correct? A T10 and a T20 have got to be different, right?

The 2016 Rogue user manual says this:

EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR LIGHTS
...
Rear combination light*
Item Wattage (W) Bulb No.
Stop -- 5/21 ---- W21W
Turn -- 21 ------ WY21W
Tail ---- 5 -------- 168

* It is recommended you visit a NISSAN dealer for replacement.

T10 and T20 wedge size reference the size of the base, in mm.
W21W= 7443 bulb dual filaments T20 base
WY21W = 7440 single filament T20 base

thanks guys, a lot. So, if use my spare T10 that I used to replace my tail light, it will fit but will not brighten up when the brakes are applied, right?

No, a T10 base will not fit properly in a T20 socket.

Check this out. I bought a 7443 from Amazon, and received a gigantic bulb. Look at it in comparison to the t10 and my thumb. It's huuuuge.
Before I take the panel apart and dig in, does it look like the right size of bulb? Or am I an idiot?
Does the llb2 on the package mean that it's for a Hummer or RV or a gigantic car perhaps?

Yes that large bulb (7443)is correct for the brake lamp (T20 base).
The LLB2 is a Phillips brand code for “long life bulb 2 pack”

It fit beautifully, and now she can brake all she wants. Legally.

Big thanks.
