If I put in a rebuilt transmission in my 1990 Q45 must I install a new radiator to prevent old transmission contamination or is a radiator clean out sufficient?

It is best to replace the rad at this milage anyway since they are ofetn scaled up at this point,

BUT there is a much cheaper solution.

Install a transmission cooler bypassing the radiator in its entirety.

Those factory heat exchangers in the radiator are a prime source of clogging and low line pressure, at least on hi mile examples.

So the aftermarket transmission cooler (B&M or Hayden) is the way to. go.

PS: Where are you located?

I have a under 30,000 miles factory remanufactured Q45 transmission, which I will give up for CHEAP, for anyone that shows up and pulls it and transports it off by himself.

transmission has had transmission cooler and 2 full flushes and 5 ( yes, Five) pan drops and filter changes in its short life.

Say $700 or so.

Would be worth even a roadtrip w/ a pick-up.

I'm down here in New Orleans am in need of a trans for my 91' Q. Will yours work for me? I think it may be worth the road trip!

Say. I never thought of installing a separate transmission cooler. Where would it reside?

It will work guranteed in all 90-93's (its out of a 91).Bring the tools+some expertise and we pull it together ( i have a manual too).

There will be no problems with this transmission of any kind (or money back), most recent fill ( 3 months old) is MOBIL1 ATF.

Call me at home at (502) 968 47 28, after 4:30 pm EST.

The most popular and generally recommended location is in between the rad and the AC condensor.

Works real well, slightly reduced airflow over rad is negligible.

Some have gone with a smaller transmission cooler into the slot where the active's have the cooler for the activesus fluid.

But option one has been more popular.
