Anyone know if it's possible to remove the iPod connector inside the center storage bin and replace it with the USB connector version? Both are listed in the owners' manual so I assume it is wired for either one...

What year is your Rogue? The higher trims in 2012 and 2013 have both the iPod connector and the USB, so I wouldn't necessarily assume they're interchangeable. Nor would I assume that the wiring for the USB connector is included on the vehicle harness for the lower trim levels. You might want to contact Nissan USA to ask them about the wiring harness included in your specific vehicle. Also be aware that even if the wiring issues can be dealt with, the stock head unit may not be capable of reading music off a USB flash drive. This feature was very important to me, which was one of the many reasons I never even considered a base model.

I know when I had an auto-dimming mirror installed by the dealer months after delivery of my 2013 SV, the wiring was not part of the original vehicle harness. It was included in a kit that came with the mirror. I was told that it was connected to the wiring cluster for the sunroof that's directly above the driver's sun visor. Without the sunroof, they would have had to run wiring from the fuse box on the driver side kick panel up the A post and across the headliner.

If you do all your homework and discover this is an easy job, then I say go for it. But if not, you might be better off getting an aftermarket head unit with a USB port on the face of the unit, if you can find one like that. Some may have a mini-USB port on the front, meaning you'd have to use a cable to plug a flash drive into it, and it wouldn't be possible to slide the flash drive directly into the face of the unit.
