Replace Fuel Pump O Ring

I recently had my fuel pump replaced on my 1996 Q45. The tech did not replace the O Ring and now I have a bad fuel smell in the car. Is it possible to replace the O ring by just sliding it over the top of the pump or do I need to remove the entire pump again?

I don't think I'd risk stretching it over the flange of the fuel pump sending unit, if that's even possible.
