I've heard that a lot of the sr20dets spin bearings the first time they're fired up. Has anyone heard of this happening on the rb20. The gauge cluster that came with my clip says it has 63,000 km, what do you guys think.

that happens because people dont properly prime the oiling system before they start a swap for the first time.

the PROPER way to do it is to put a quart of oil in a bug sprayer (one of those pump types) make an adapter to fit over where the oil filter screws on then pressureize everything.

alternately you can turn the engine with the ignitor chip disconnected so that it wont fire.that way you can crank the engine in bursts and get oil all around before its fired up for the first time.also you should remove the sparkplugs and spray some seafoam in the cylinders so that the piston wont scrape the bores.

you gotta remember there will still be several rotations when the bearings arent getting oil yet.

the pump has to suck the oil, fill the filter, then fill all passages before the oil starts to squirt and do its job.

while that way does work, its not 100% safe.

What is this seafoam you pour in?

I have done it before on a different swap and just left the fuel pump relay unplugged so it wouldn't fire up, then pump till there is oil pressure.

seafoam is a multipurpose oil/cleaner.go to napa or car quest or hell even advance auto is begining to carry it.its kinda like an all in wonder item that really works.as for cranking it, it works fine.i fill the oilfilter with oil until it wont absorb anymore oil and then spin it onto the oilfilter screw.then again my engine hadnt been sitting for nearly as long as most ppl who get sr's.mine had only been sitting for a few months as a clip and before that it was a daily driver.

oh yeah, you also should pull the fuel pump fuse as well as too much cranking with the injectors pulsing could lead to bore wash and would counter act the lubercating properties of any oil.
