I recently purchased a new aluminum trimmed console lid latch assembly for about $22.00 from Nissan. The old one was pretty beat up and I was going to cover with a trim kit but discovered a new one was cheap...

My problem is that replacing seems to be pretty tricky and appears to be a multi-step process.

Does anyone have suggestions about how to go about it?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks,

You guy's were a huge help...

So I got with my ex fighter pilot Dad this weekend and we figured it out...here are the steps in case anyone else wants to try this...the new trim cap looks great btw.

1. Open main console lid and lift assembly to upright.2. pop off trim at base of hinge assembly to reveal lid attachment.3. remove lid attachment (8 screws) Have someone hold the lid while you remove last screw.4. remove entire console lid assembly (you will need to close the lid and it will slip out)5. remove 4 screws holding the bottom cover on.6. remove the 8 screws holding the sliding bracket on7. you can now remove the top of the lid assembly and get to the upper compartment lid release mechanism8. remove this mechanism and you can now pop out the aluminum trim cap (you will need to rotate it a bit to make it come loose).9. replace with new trim cap and reverse all steps.

Fin.

I understand why this part takes so much abuse since it is the exact spot where the seatbelt trim edge hits if you are not careful...Anyway for $27.00 and an hour of time mine is now fresh and pretty.

Hope this helps the next guy!

I need to do the very same tging but was afraid I'd have to mortgage the house for the new trim!

$22.00? That's good news.

There is a much easier way to replace the: Upper Lid Aluminum Trim Panel Latch Assembly. This can be performed by simply removing two screws.
