The clutch in my 1997 3.0l Maxima SE died this weekend. I am debating how to fix it, pay or DIY. I am moderately handy with the car up through brake jobs but am unsure about taking this on. I have access to a garage, tools, and a Haynes manual but am nervous about making a bad situation worse. Any advice? Pitfalls to avoid? Other parts to replace along with the disk? How much shoud I expect to pay somebody to do this for me?thanks

Welcome to NICO!

If you've never done a clutch before, I would leave it to a pro (or at least get a knowledgeable friend to help you). When replacing the clutch, you will also need to replace the pressure plate. You also need to check the condition of/and grease the throw out bearing, and get the flywheel resurfaced by a machine shop. The most important thing is to bleed the system after the new clutch is installed. You may have to do a clutch pedal adjustment as well.
