Does anyone have a reliable and trustworty reference in the greater LA area (San Fernando Valley is closest) to fix brakes, belts and struts. Dealer just quoted me 3.5K!! I'd be willing to buy parts myself and take to repair shop if need be.

Belts you can buy online and replace yourself. You can order new struts, and take them to a private shop to have them installed, and get your brakes done there, too. Should be a lot cheaper that way.

Edit: Sorry, don't have a reference to a LA shop.

All of that stuff you can do yourself & if you're not too sure get a buddy thats pretty good with cars to help.

For the struts you'd need a spring compressor that you can rent from Autozone or Advanced Auto Parts for damn-near nothing.

Hell I just didn an engine swap/replacement on my R50 in a neighbor's garage with no power tools or heavy equipement; I don't recomend this cause its a pain in the arse but it is doable & so are the things you are needing to do. Just do one thing every weekend for the next couple of weekends. I did front struts, rear springs & all new lift coils all the way around in about 3 hours one weekend like a year or so ago.

I can recommend two shops in the San Gabriel Valley (Temple City and Irwindale), and I can get you all the parts.

email me at my screenname (carnal_c30) @yahoo.com

I definitely know it will be less than half that price parts and labor
