Hey

Has anyone tried to replace the covering material of the rear seat ? The fabric one I have is torn and stained and looks like a pos -I'm starting to remove the leather from a coupe seat and modifying it to replace my fabric one . Has anyone tried something like this and if so any suggestions /advice.

Thanks John (Ontario Canada)

Upholstering things is hard if you haven't done it before. I've tried and failed miserably.

If you want the easy way out, just find a set of used rear seats out of a junkyard or something. They're cheap.

I thought about that but am already using S13 grey leather front seats so I would like to match the rear. The carpet is being replace with a s13 zenki black one and I'll take some pics. of the rear seat as I am working on it.

You can try finding one that came with leather seats to match your inserts. I'm not sure if the coupes or hatchbacks came with leather but I don't see why not - many of our verts came with leather either from the factory or as a dealer-installed option. Good luck!

Thanks! Some of the verts here have leather but I have only seen black. Mine was originally cloth and I've installed light grey leather S13 front seats. I do have all 4 black leather inserts and clovebox but may stick with cloth inserts/glovebox , light grey leather seats and the black carpet to see how it looks.

You have the issue of the rears being different sizes from coupe/hatch vs vert.

To me I'd pick out some leather or other cloth and get all of them redone so they'd match.

The rear seats are actually quite a bit different . I have 3 complete hatch/coupe (h/c) leather seats that I'm working with to modify to fit the vert.

Option 1 -- remove leather from h/c seat , and alter to fit vert. -- having removed the leather it became apparent that the vert seats are so much different that each individual leather piece would have to be removed then altered as every panel piece is different--basically a job for a pro. or someone with experience

Option 2-- take a h/c seat -remove the hog rings from the seat bottom leather ends -cut the foam to vert dimensions and reinstall the leather- I used tie wraps-- this is actually fairly easy and looks ok--if someone can advise how to post pics. from photobucket I'll post them--just have the bottom piece done ATM

OK so I have started on the back seat upper part--the h/c back seat upper part is so different from the vert that my only option was to remove the vert seat fabric and try to fit the leather cover from the h/c seat. As most of the h/c leather back seats have UV damage and hardening at the top I turned the leather cover upside down which also eliminated the 2 pull lever holes and trim. It needs some adjustments but again it looks alright.. If I find out how to post pics. here from photobucket I'll post them for your opinions.

Here are a few pics of taking a h/c seat base and cutting the foam to fit the vert -the leather is just rewrapped using zipties. I like having the seatbelts coming thru the seat-I'll post pics of the back piece and whole seat later. let me know what you guys think.
