I have a 2007 M35X, after this last winter I was noticing that the bottom splash shield (engine cover) was loose. I looked at it more closely and noticed that the holes where the splash shield screws and clips were to mount has been torn / ripped. Will look at it this weekend but wanted to see if anyone has dealt with this issue and how they repaired it.

I think I can remove the splash shield but worried that when I go to put it back in there won't be enough material for the screws / clips to hold the splash shield in place. Looks like in the front 2-3 of the plastic holes are ripped through and the shield is sagging. Think I can get the screws and clips out and replace them but is there a way to mount the shield back into place if the plastic it is to fit into is ripped?

It's like i'm suppose to secure the shield by fastening into a plastic hole but the hole looks like a donut that someone took a bite out of, it's ripped in half.

thoughts?

1) Throw plastic shield out
2) Buy a Tollbooth Willey splash shield
3) Profit

These are just mud flaps, I need the lower cover for the entire engine compartment. My bigger issue is that I'm concerned the screws / clips won't have any material to fasten to as the plastic on the car, not the guard, has been torn away.

If you want to keep your current plastic one, you could drill other holes on the car. It's just plastic and not on open display being under the car.
Whether you make other holes or not, you could use some massive washers on both sides of the plastic so the pressure from the little bolt/nut is well distributed.
... if all else fails ---> baling wire :gapteeth:

Well I guess if you aren't going to be lowering your car then it's just plastic.

Since I change my own oil and since I was/will be again lowered, I needed the added benefit of the custom shield being aluminum and stronger than that POS plastic garbage.
