So my SR blew on me last week and I finally got the engine out the car. It was locked up so my plan was just to rebuild it and call it a day. WRONG! I took off everything on the exhaust side of the engine and found a hole in the block. FML. Is it repairable? If not, I'm just going to part out the engine and go KA-T. I'm really dissapointed because I spent a lot of my hard earned money on that swap and now this happens.

Here are pics.

This was when I had just dropped the engine in the car. Still wasn't done. Pretty f*** clean to me.

If its not repairable, I have a bunch of aftermarket parts on it, including the OEM parts if anyone is interested.

Thanks.

Update*
Someone told me its not, so I just wanna double check.

Yeah you're screwed. Sorry man that really sucks. You should just buy a block from someone parting out their motor, it would end up costing you around 300 to get everything you need probably. If you decide to part out, shoot me an email. That's a super clean swap, and I'd give those parts a good home. Good luck.

What were you doing that caused a rod to throw? I've never seen an SR just let a rod loose like that.

I was honestly driving to school. I was going no more than 65. I think it was getting ready to blow because I let my friend drive it the week before, and since he was driving, he would shift way pass redline. After he drove it, my car began knocking. I didn't drive it for a week because I was doing a 5 lug swap, 300zx brake conversion (front and rear), and coilovers. So when I started it up again, it ran fine, BUT it began shutting off on me at random times. Finally, 1 day after driving again, my car died.

I did find a bare short block locally for $150 so I'm about to pick that up today and get ready for a full rebuild.

Make your douche-bag friend buy it. This is why I tell my friends (if they're privileged enough to drive one of my cars) what their speed limit in my car is, and what their rpm limit is.

Take advantage of it while you can, I guess.

There are only a handful of people who can drive my car, and it's a VERY short list. If someone I knew did that to my car, you better damn well believe he's buying me a new motor. And I wouldn't go easy on him and have him buy the new motor. He would reimburse for the previous one. I understand that your dad bought the previous motor, but your friend needs to learn to respect other people's property. Having to shovel out $1500 helps people learn that respect.

Also, and this is just my mouth running at this point, rod knock like what you heard is usually a big indicator of "don't drive me". I've seen a few rods let loose before, but only a few cases were unforseen (Fiznat's KA-T giving out on him getting on the highway is one of the rare cases). Most cars will give you many early warning signs that they're about to blow, and they're very slap you in the face obvious. The car was knocking AND cutting off on you. You could have easily had saved the motor if you had stopped driving it and pulled the motor to look at the rods/bearings.
