I NEED HELP! I need to know where I can get a repair manual for my 95 240sx. All of my local shops don't carry the manual. I also need it so i can find out where the bolts are to tighten and loosen my alternator belt (at 4000 it squeals and the battery light comes on). Any good links email at [email protected]

try a bookstore. it would be in your best interest to get an FSM (factory service manual) just because there are tons more specs, etc etc in it. but if not, Chiltons or Hayes does the trick i guess.

I think I paid about $80 for my FSM from nissan.

That's definately the way to go though. Chilton's and Hayes are good but they aren't FSM's.

I don't think Chilton's and Hayes even make it. The most I see from them are the 200SX and Sentra. Nothing about the 240

Actually Chilton does make a manual for the 240SX, but the 240sx shares it with the Altima. Because there are more Altimas on the road than 240SXs, don't be surprised that most of the illustrations and directions tend to favor Altima owners. However, for routine/small maintenance work on your car, the manual is actually adequate. For more involved jobs, I agree with the others: Get the FSM.

When changing the alternator belt, follow the diagram for the Altima. For some reason, the diagram for the 95-96 240sx looks incorrect. It's showing 2 belts when there should be 3. The locations of the A/C compressor, alternator, etc. looks out of place, too. Also, follow the belt tightness specs for the Altima.

There's actually two bolts you need to loosen on the alternator section (an adjuster bolt and a locking bolt). First, loosen the locking bolt, because it holds the adjusting bolt in place. Then, loosen the adjusting bolt. At some point, you might notice that the alternator pulley is not budging and the belts are still taut. Chances are the assembly is stuck and that you need WD40 to lubricate the assembly and some sort of metal tube (like a breaker bar) to push this adjusting assembly towards the center of the engine (be careful not to hit the alternator or pulley). Alternate pushing the assembly and loosening the adjusting bolt until you have adequate clearance to remove the belts.

If you need pics let me know. I can also scan the illustration for you if you want.
