92 240sx-se w/HICAS. The high pressure power steering hose that is located behind pulley on p/s pump is leaking at the "crimped" connection on the hose side.

Has anyone had the "crimp" repaired and been successful?

Secondly, Midway Nissan in AZ offers internet discounts, retail $246 discounted $185 for OEM #49710-53F61 high pressure hose. Has anyone had experience with removing the hose? The hose connects at the bottom to a connection that connects to metal piping that runs back to the steering knuckle. Midway said the connection between the hose and pipe is factory and is not disassembled. Which leads me to believe it must be disconnected at the knuckle.

Thanks.

nope, i tried to 'repair' a domestic power steering hose; just get the whole hose assembly & be done w/ it. not worth the aggrivation of seeing it leak again after the attempt... but wowza, that's $$$ even w/ the discount.

some1else can chime in on the 2nd part of your query, since I don't have hicas

good day, sir.

Update on leaking high-pressure hose.

I removed the high-pressure hose (quite an undertaking, it's harder than it looks) and took it to Scottsdale Automotive Specialitsts, in Scottsdale, AZ.

They cut the two ends of the hose off and welded new threaded fittings on the ends and installed new hose material. The owner of the shoop Art Nolte said he hasn't had one come back with a leak yet. He did an excellent job and all for $59 total, sure beats $200.

I reinstalled the hose, refilled the resevoir (almost filled it up with regular power steering fluid until I realized the fluid I drained out was red, and the new fluid was not, who would think they use automatic transmission fluid in the power steering system) bled the system, started it up, test drove and no leaks!

P.S. Had just purchased vehicle last week and missed the leak doing inspection. Previous owner had kept very good care of car and I assumed oil /gunk build up was from valve cover, which had been repaired.

yay, good to go! didn't check salvage yards to see if u can get it cheaper than $60???

Some people didn't know that most asian cars (not hondas: they have a special fluid for theirs...) take Mercon/Dexron ATF instead of regular clear PS fluid...

I heard that the ATF have better additives to keep the inner parts cleaner... while PS fluid is just a regular hydraulic oil w/ minor antifoaming additives n stuff...

Just the other day, I was selling a high & low side ps hose to a customer w/ a 93 ranger: turns out the triad computer lookup @ the end of the parts page says to use ATF Type F for their ps fluid. He scratched his head, doubting me, so I sent him to look it up chiltons/haynes/ his owners manual...:owned

finally, had to remind him to use flare wrenches to install the high side, so he won't round out the fittings <shrugs> Here I come to the dark side, Pepboys!
