Okay, it's time to repaint my car. It's sunbleached and time worn red, and I cannot STAND having a red car. I'm trailed by the police everywhere I go, and I'm not kidding. I've been told Maaco sucks, but I need something in the $600 or less range. I simply want the entire car painted, and the paint I'm using is Nordic Mist Metallic Clearcoat, a stock Honda Prelude color. So it shouldn't be terribly expensive. Someone please validate or invalidate that Maaco sucks (they're CHEAP!! I LIKE!) or tell me where to go! I would be having it painted within two weeks. Thanks!

if you do some prep work and tape off the car yourself macco does a good spray job, so i hear.

Personally, my freind was less than satisfied about the job they did on his 89 accord. We were spray painting his plastic trim and when we were taking the tape and newspaper off some of the new paint came with it (and we waited for the paint to fully cure before we did this). We were using medical tape which isnt that sticky, it didnt even look like they sanded the car...

What gives? My car is aztec red, never been bother by police once, and i speed a lot. Are the cops in your area just really bored or something? I thought the red car thing was a myth

Perhaps it's a myth where you live, but around here, they just love young males with red cars. Literally I have spent 80% of my driving time lately with a police cruiser visible in my rear view mirror. They like to hide behind other cars, but I can still see their antennas. It's making me paranoid. They're probably hiding in the bushes outside my house, and will run in..."You're under arrest! You were THINKING about driving fast in that red car, weren't you! Ahah!!" I really wouldn't put it past them. Really though, Maaco gave me a very affordable quote, and if they don't suck ***, I'd like to use them. Perhaps I'll give them a call and find out about quality guarantees, etc. I know I want the car entirely sanded down, all the old paint off, then primer, five or more coats of base, and at least three coats of clearcoat. =/ I just don't want it to cost me over $600! Please guys, let me know what to do.

I've been trying to find a cheap but decent quality paint job for a long time. I think when it comes to paint though, you get what you pay for. My solution is that I'm going to sand the entire car on my own (big job), fix all the dings that I can, then take it to a decent paint place and mask off the windows in the parking lot. By doing most of the labor yourself, you save a ton of money and you can afford a better paint job.

that or you can do the old "flat black can-o-spraypaint" paint job. That will only cost you like $40 :D
