I’ve agreed to buy and will be picking up 350Z Track V1 wheels for my coupe this weekend; they’re in great shape freshly refurbished and powder coated, but one problem is they were powder coated pearl white. So my question is since I don’t want pearl white wheels on my red coupe how much work is it going to be for me to repaint them; am I going to be able to just take some scotch-bite to them and repaint or re-powder coat or am I going to need to take them back down to bare metal (I may have access to a sand blaster if needed). Anyone how can input or has knowledge on the subject please share.

Pearl white... Doesn't sound like it'd look bad on red. Got any pics?

I've always wondered the same thing but I think people usually use aircraft stripper to remove the previous finish, and then re-powder coat.

Im quite sure you are going to have to strip them back down to bare metal. Scotch brite will most likely NOT do the job, not sure a sand blaster will either. Go talk with whomever you will have re-coating them and see what they say.

I had a grille powder coated and my guy took a grinder to it for quite a while. If I remember correctly from what he said the powder essentially makes a "molecular" bond with the metal when its baked.

Got my wheels last Friday; and I'm still studing up on painting over powder coat, and I found this
I've been able to successfully paint over powdercoating by prepping the standard way, never any problems...scuff with Scotchbrite, or sand with 320 grit wet, if you really want a nice job and you're using HVLP equipment, tack and shoot with non-sanding sealer then color coat, if you're using rattle can, tack then color coat...painted wheels, bumpers, any number of things that are powdercoated, no problems...
Can someone translate for me using terms for someone that is clueless about auto painting and its terminologies? Are they talking about a "Tack Cloth?"

Also since it will be asked here's a picture; I'm only going to repaint the face since a power coated surface is so durable, and as you can see I've wet sanded the clearcoat on the face and they are taped off.
